Higuain in Miami to complete MLS move

Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain has arrived in Florida to complete his move to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, club officials confirmed Friday.

Inter Miami team co-owner Jorge Mas posted a picture on Twitter of him standing alongside the 32-year-old forward shortly after his arrival in the US.

"A warm welcome to Gonzalo Higuain, a world class striker and champion," Mas wrote above the photo.

Inter Miami have not officially announced Higuain's transfer.

The former Napoli, Real Madrid and Juventus forward is due to complete his move pending a physical, sources familiar with the deal confirmed to AFP.

Higuain has spent the past four years at Juventus, but was loaned to AC Milan in 2018-2019. He also spent part of the 2019 season at Chelsea before returning to Juve.

Higuain played in three World Cups for Argentina and scored 31 goals in 75 international appearances.

Inter Miami, who are part-owned by former England and Manchester United star David Beckham, have struggled in their first season in Major League Soccer.

The club has won just two out of 10 matches since making their debut earlier this year.

Higuain's expected move comes after the acquisition of the Argentine's former Juventus team-mate and France World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi.

The Argentine's move also means he will be playing in MLS alongside his elder brother Federico, who plays for D.C. United.
