Algeria international Mohamed Fares has torn knee ligaments less than a week after signing for Torino, the Serie A club said on Tuesday.

Fares, who arrived on loan from Lazio on Friday following a disappointing spell at Genoa, suffered the tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training, Torino said in a statement.

The 25-year-old's season is over following the second serious knee injury of his career, after tearing the same ligament in his left knee in August 2019 while at SPAL.

He has played 12 times for his country, featuring twice when Algeria won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
