The Bayern Munich trio of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos and Mario Goetze were recalled to the Germany squad on Friday for September's World Cup qualifiers against Austria and the Farore Islands.

Germany coach Joachim Loew has named a 24-man squad for the matches against Austria on September 6 at the Allianz Arena in Munich and the trip to the Faroe Islands four days later.

"The objective is to take a step closer towards qualification," said Loew, who welcomed back the three Bayern players after they missed the recent 3-3 friendly draw with Paraguay.

Schweinsteiger has not played for his country since the 4-1 qualifying win against Kazakhstan in March, and makes the squad despite suffering an ankle knock playing for Bayern against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Tuesday.

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski is injured, but foreign-based players such as the Real Madrid duo of Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira, Lazio striker Miroslav Klose and Fiorentina's Mario Gomez are all included.

There were also call-ups for Bayer Leverkusen winger Sidney Sam and the Borussia Moenchengladbach forward Maz Kruse, who have started the domestic season well after impressing during the national team's June tour of America.

Germany currently top qualifying Group C with five wins and one draw from six games. They are five points clear of Austria, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.
