Sunderland's League Cup match-winner Ki Sung-yueng has urged his team-mates to carry the momentum from their shock 2-1 win over Chelsea into their fight to avoid Premier League relegation.

The South Korea midfielder scored his first goal in English football to dump Chelsea out of the League Cup in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, netting with two minutes of extra time remaining at the Stadium of Light.

However, with Sunderland five points adrift at the foot of the league table ahead of Saturday's home game with Norwich City, Ki says that thoughts of the semi-finals will have to wait.

"Chelsea are one of the best teams in England. Even though this is the League Cup, we don't care because we will get a lot of confidence from that," said Ki, who is on loan at Sunderland from Swansea City.

"I think definitely it can help our league form. The atmosphere is buzzing among the boys and we all believe.

"If we can beat Chelsea, we can beat other teams. But we have to get our focus back for Saturday."

Ki's goal capped a stirring fightback from Gus Poyet's men, who had fallen behind to a Lee Cattermole own goal in the 46th minute, only for Fabio Borini to equalise two minutes before the end of normal time.

With 118 minutes on the clock, Ki collected a pass from Borini and cut inside Michael Essien and Gary Cahill before steering a low shot into the bottom-left corner.

"I can't express the feeling," he said. "It's my first goal in England, a quarter-final against Chelsea and scoring in the last minute -- that's maybe a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"It was great to celebrate and to get through to the semi-final. I had a chance a few minutes before with the header, but I thought I would get another chance.

"The boys were desperate to win. They had a lot of energy and we were fitter than Chelsea. We controlled the game in extra time."
