Adelaide end Glory's winning start to season

Spain's Sergio Cirio scored his third goal as Adelaide United ended Perth Glory's winning start to the A-League season with a 2-0 win in Adelaide on Sunday.

Substitute Awer Mabil iced the win with Adelaide's second goal to ensure the Reds join Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC as the only unbeaten clubs after three rounds.

Cirio was gifted the opening goal by Argentine playmaker Marcelo Carrusca, who was making his 50th appearance for the Reds.

Carrusca robbed Perth defender Scott Jamieson and delivered a sweet 20-metre through-ball for Cirio to score with his first touch.

A Nathan Burns pair against his former club helped Wellington Phoenix to a comprehensive 4-1 win over Newcastle Jets in New Zealand on Sunday.

Burns stuck twice in the opening half before Michael McGlinchey added the third midway through the second half.

Skipper Andrew Durante completed the scoring for the Phoenix by heading home a free-kick deep in stoppage time, with Joel Griffiths getting a consolation goal for the Jets in the 90th minute.

Albanian Besart Berisha scored his first hat-trick for Melbourne Victory in their 5-2 derby win over Melbourne City on Saturday.

Berisha's goals were book-ended by goals from striker Archie Thompson as the Victory came from behind twice after first-half headers to Robbie Wielaert and Jason Hoffman.

Brisbane Roar have started their title defence with their worst losing streak in three seasons after being sunk by two Sydney FC wonder goals at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.

The Sky Blues punished a sloppy Brisbane with a deserved 2-0 win, highlighted by a Marc Janko super strike.

Austrian captain Janko pounced on a poor clearance by Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young, chesting the ball high before thumping the 35m volley into the net.

Not to be outdone, Serbian midfielder Milos Dimitrijevic produced a long-range screamer of his own in the second half to ensure Sydney took all three points home under new coach Graham Arnold.
