Phoenix spoil Thompson's big day with win over Victory

Wellington Phoenix spoiled Australia legend Archie Thompson's 200th A-League appearance, coming from behind twice to grab a 3-2 win over Melbourne Victory on Sunday.

It was Phoenix's first win over Victory in Melbourne and tightened the finals race as they joined Victory and Adelaide United on 33 points, three points behind competition leaders Perth Glory.

Kevin Muscat's team had the opportunity to move to the top of the standings with a win in Thompson's landmark appearance, but Phoenix had other ideas, with Nathan Burns tapping in the winner in the 77th minute.

Perth Glory escaped with a 2-2 draw over 10-man Brisbane Roar at home to remain the outright A-League leaders despite having failed to win any of their past six matches.

Glory came back from trailing 2-1 against the defending champions with an 84th minute goal by Dino Djulbic. They sit three points clear but have played one more game than Victory.

Former Socceroo striker Josh Kennedy may have saved Melbourne City's season with a header off Slovenian international Robert Koren's cross in a 3-1 win over Adelaide United in Melbourne.

Kennedy, who has been struggling with a back injury, scored his debut goal that put City 2-1 up on their way to a rousing win.

A Terry Antonis winner delivered 10-man Sydney FC a pulsating 4-3 derby victory over Asian club champions Western Sydney Wanderers.

After going down 3-0 inside 25 minutes, the Wanderers clawed their way back before Antonis had the final say, netting the winner after 74 minutes.

Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners played out a 0-0 draw.
