Wanderers win their first game of A-League season

Western Sydney Wanderers broke through for their first win of Australia's A-League season with a 1-0 victory over Perth Glory at home on Sunday.

The much-needed victory came on the first anniversary of their historic AFC Champions League triumph and it was new signing Dario Vidosic who scored.

Nearing half-time, Spanish defender Alberto sent a pass to the edge of the box where Vidosic was waiting. The former Socceroo took a brilliant first touch before driving a powerful finish past ex-Wanderers custodian Ante Covic.

Graham Arnold's Sydney FC remain the only unbeaten side this season after a 3-1 win over his old Central Coast Mariners club.

Former Mariners stalwart Matt Simon came back to haunt his old club, scoring a late brace for Sydney FC and relegating a 10-man Mariners to defeat on Saturday.

Simon struck in the 82nd and 88th minutes after first-half goals to Sydney's Shane Smeltz and Roy O'Donovan of the Mariners.

Brandon Borrello with a brace and Jamie Maclaren scored in Brisbane Roar's 3-0 win over bottom team Adelaide United on Saturday, keeping their team on second spot on the standings.

Serb Milos Trifunovic stunned Melbourne City with a second-half brace to deliver Newcastle Jets a comeback 3-2 win on Friday.

There was only one team in it during the opening stanza, when City stormed to a 2-0 lead through deflected goals to Aaron Mooy and Stefan Mauk.

But a Ben Kantarovski header past Danish goalkeeper Thomas Sorenson, a Trifunovic penalty and a header gave new Jets coach Scott Miller back-to-back wins over the Melbourne clubs following the previous week's 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory.

Champions Melbourne Victory are at home to Wellington Phoenix on Monday in the remaining game of the round.
