Five of this season's biggest Chinese football transfers

The cashed-up Chinese Super League has splashed out an eye-watering 258.9 million euros ($290 million) in the winter transfer window so far, surging past the big-spending English Premier League for the first time.

Here are the top five deals:

February 5: Jiangsu Suning snare Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira for 50 million euros. Teixeira, 26, scored 89 goals in 223 matches for Ukranian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk, and was previously reported to be on Liverpool's radar.

February 3: Colombian international Jackson Martinez signs with Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande from Atletico Madrid for 42 million euros.

January 27: Chelsea sell their Brazilian midfielder Ramires to Suning for 28 million euros. The 28-year-old Champions' League winner promptly found the back of the net with a volley on his debut in a friendly against Russia's Anzhi Makhachkala.

January 21: Guangzhou Evergrande sell their Brazilian top scorer Elkeson to rivals Shanghai SIPG for as much as 20 million euros, a rare trade of a foreign star between two Chinese teams.

January 26: Roma forward Gervinho signs with Hebei Fortune for a reported 18 million euros. The Ivorian had been having a disappointing season in Italy, with only six league goals to his name, and rumours swirling over his future after the departure of coach Rudi Garcia.
