Sierra Leone's Kamara cleared to play in MLS
Sierra Leone forward Alhaji Kamara has been cleared to relaunch his career in Major League Soccer with DC United after being prevented from playing for Swedish side Norrkoping because of a heart problem.
In February, Swedish champions Norrkoping announced that the 22-year-old striker had been diagnosed with a heart defect during an obligatory medical.
The club said the defect Kamara has is unusual, "but carries a great risk for sudden death at maximum effort."
Kamara was then banned from playing internationally by world governing body FIFA.
However, Norrkoping and DC United have now said that the player has been given the all-clear to resume his career in the United States after US-based specialists examined his case.
These specialists "would never have given me permission to play if there were any risk. I am sure of myself and it is my decision," the player told Swedish daily Expressen.
Kamara's move to the USA comes just after Cameroonian midfielder Patrick Ekeng and Jeanine Christelle Djomnang, a Cameroonian women's goalkeeper, both 26, died of suspected heart problems.
