Australian international midfielder Matt McKay has returned to Brisbane Roar where he spent six A-League seasons, the club said on Sunday.

McKay, 30, has signed a two-year contract as the Roar's Australian marquee player.

"I'm very happy to be back in Brisbane and back at the Roar," said McKay, who led the club to the A-League championship trophy in 2011.

Roar managing director Sean Dobson said the club have been trying to get McKay back to Brisbane after spells in Scotland, South Korea and China.

"We are delighted Matt has returned home, a goal we have been working towards for the past 18 months and the timing couldn't have been better," Dobson said.

McKay, who has played 41 internationals for Australia, played with Glasgow Rangers, Busan IPark and Changchun Yatai in his two years overseas.
