Ramos a doubt for Madrid trip to Valencia

Real Madrid could be without influential defender Sergio Ramos when they look to extend their 22-game winning run at Valencia on Sunday.

The Spanish international played through a calf injury as he led Los Blancos to their fourth trophy of 2014 with the opening goal in a 2-0 win over San Lorenzo in the final of the Club World Cup two weeks ago.

"Together we have taken the decision to evaluate after training and then take a decision," Real boss Carlo Ancelotti said on Saturday.

"It is a different situation because he decided to force it to play in the final of the Club World Cup, but now is not the moment to risk it. If there is any risk, Ramos will not play."

Raphael Varane will partner Pepe in central defence for the European champions should Ramos miss out and Ancelotti insisted they will be plenty of opportunities for all the fringe members of his squad with a demanding schedule of up to 10 games to come in the next 32 days.

"I think the rotations are necessary because that way we will have fewer injuries and a more motivated squad," said the Italian.

"I can't think about playing the same players all the time at this stage of the season. They will all play."
