Marvin Lewis will remain the coach of the Cincinnati Bengals through the 2015 season under a one-year contract extension, the National Football League (NFL) team announced Friday.

Lewis, set for his 12th season guiding the Bengals in 2014, is the longest-tenured coach in club history and the second-longest currently in the NFL, with only New England's Bill Belichick having been with his team longer, since 2000.

But while Belichick's Patriots teams have won three Super Bowl titles, lost two other Super Bowls and reached three other conference finals, the Bengals are 0-5 in the playoffs under Lewis.

"I'm blessed to continue to do a job I love here in Cincinnati and with the Bengals," Lewis said.

"I truly appreciate the commitment by our management to continue to enable us to build an NFL championship team."

The Bengals, who have not won a playoff game since the 1990 season, were 11-5 in 2013 and won the AFC North division title for the third time under Lewis, whose Cincinnati coaching record is 90-85 with one drawn.

"Marvin has earned this commitment for the job he is doing," Bengals president Mike Brown said.

"We are one of only five teams to qualify for the playoffs the last three years and our prospects are bright looking ahead. Marvin is driven to achieve more and we are happy to secure his leadership of our team beyond the coming season."
