Huth banned over Twitter gender game

Stoke City defender Robert Huth was given an immediate two-match ban and fined by the Football Association on Friday over social media posts.

The 30-year-old German centre-back appeared to respond to a Twitter account that posts explicit images of people and asks users to guess their gender.

Huth subsequently admitted breaching FA rules relating to comments which are in indecent, improper, or bring the game into disrepute.

In addition to the two-match ban, Huth was fined £15,000 ($22,534, 20,000 euros) and ordered to complete a mandatory education course.

"Robert Huth will serve a two-match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted breaching FA Rules in relation to comments he made on social media," a statement issued by English football's governing body said Friday.

"The Stoke City defender was charged in relation to comments which were indecent and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, contrary to FA Rule E3(1).

"Further to this, it was considered an "Aggravated Breach" as defined in Rule E3(2), as it included a reference to gender and/or gender reassignment."

Huth apologised for his behaviour earlier this month after interacting with a Twitter account that posts cropped pictures of people in sexualised poses and asks users to guess if they have male or female genitalia.

After deleting the tweets in question, Huth wrote on Twitter: "Clearly no offence was meant or directed to anyone, but apologies if I've offended anyone."

Huth will now miss Saturday's league match at home to Queens Park Rangers and the Potters' subsequent trip away to Newcastle United.
