Commons urges Celtic to bounce back from Cup shocker

Kris Commons has urged his Celtic team-mates to take their Scottish Cup disappointment out on Dundee when the sides clash at Dens Park on Wednesday.

With the League Cup already won, Ronny Deila's side had hoped to become the first Celtic team since 2001 to claim a domestic clean sweep of trophies.

However, the Glasgow giants saw their dreams of a treble ended when Inverness Caledonian Thistle clinched a shock 3-2 win in their Scottish Cup semi-final meeting at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Despite that disappointment, the league leaders are still firm favourites to retain the Scottish Premiership title and will move eight points clear of Aberdeen if they defeat Dundee.

Commons has urged Celtic to put the pain of their Hampden defeat to one side and produce a polished performance against Dundee in their last game before the Scottish Premiership splits in two.

"It was a real disappointment not to win the game," Commons said of the semi-final defeat.

"I thought we did enough - a few things didn't go our way on the park. But credit to Inverness. They worked hard, put us under pressure and to score three goals against us means they always had a chance.

"We gave everything. There was nothing more we could have done. But sometimes you can do that and it just doesn't work right.

"Sunday was evident of us working hard, trying to do all the right things and sometimes just falling that little bit short.

"We fell that little bit short on Sunday but we'll be looking to bounce back against Dundee on Wednesday.

"We'll be looking to put in a good performance and win the match because we've still got a league title to win and that's our main aim now, to win our remaining fixtures and win in style."

Celtic's cup-tied duo of Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong will come back into Deila's consideration for the trip to Dens Park as the Hoops chase their fourth consecutive title.

Anthony Stokes may miss out while John Guidetti could have played himself back into contention with a goal on Sunday.

Dundee captain Kevin Thomson is a fitness doubt, while veteran striker Paul Heffernan is available.
