Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam has signed a new contract with Stoke City, the Premier League club announced on Saturday.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Potters on a four-year deal from top-flight rivals Liverpool in 2010, has agreed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the Britannia Stadium until 2017, with the option of a further year also included in his new contract.

Adam played a key role as Stoke finished an impressive ninth in the Premier League last season, scoring seven goals in 36 appearances including a wonder strike from inside his own half against eventual champions Chelsea.

"We are delighted that Charlie has decided to extend his stay with us," said Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes.

"It's clear to see he's enjoying playing under the management of Mark Hughes and feels at home at the Britannia Stadium."

Scholes added: "Charlie is a big fans' favourite and I'm sure they will be pleased as we are that he is staying for at least another two years, if not longer."
