Pulis blasts 'ridiculous' transfer window

West Brom coach Tony Pulis blasted the transfer window as "ridiculous" on Sunday after he was forced to rest unsettled star striker Saido Berahino from the 3-2 loss to Chelsea.

Premier League rivals Tottenham are understood to have made an offer of up to £18 million ($28.2m, 25.5m euros) for the 22-year-old.

But Pulis is furious that the transfer window remains open until September 1 despite the season already being underway.

"The transfer window is absolutely ridiculous," said Pulis.

"For it to be going through into the start of the season, I find just ridiculous.

"Saido's a great lad but this can be disruptive and it has been disruptive.

He's fine, there are no problems with him, but it's the transfer window that causes the problem. There are still seven days to go. He's a young lad and he needs to be protected.

"There is a lot of stuff going on in his mind and a lot of people saying things and doing things. The kid shouldn't have this problem. Nobody should. The season has started."
