Vardy strikes again as Leicester win at Norwich

Jamie Vardy continued his fine form for Leicester City as the Foxes bounced back from losing their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at Norwich City on Saturday.

England striker Vardy converted a first-half penalty at Carrow Road for his Premier League-leading seventh goal of the campaign before Jeffrey Schlupp added a second just after half-time.

Dieumerci Mbokani's first goal since arriving on loan from Dynamo Kiev gave Norwich a lifeline but ultimately nothing more.

Just a second win in six matches propelled Leicester back up into the top four as Norwich slid one place to 13th.

Leicester were bidding to make amends for last weekend's 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal that shattered the Foxes' unbeaten start to the campaign.

Claudio Ranieri elected to leave in-form Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, scorer of five goals this term, on the bench, but even without one of their key performers Leicester made a bright start.

Shinji Okazaki spurned a chance to put the visitors ahead inside the opening 10 minutes when the Japan striker nodded over from six yards out.

A swift Leicester counter-attack presented an opportunity for Vardy on 21 minutes but Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy turned the striker's near-post effort behind.

Ruddy made an excellent sharp stop moments later to thwart Daniel Drinkwater from point-blank range but there was little he could do as Vardy, on target for the fifth game running, tucked away a 28th-minute penalty after being upended by Sebastien Bassong inside the area.

The Foxes immediately doubled their lead after the break as Ghana international Schlupp rounded off another flowing move with his first goal of the season.

The introduction of Mbokani just prior to the hour sparked Norwich into life with the Democratic Republic of Congo forward heading against the crossbar on 67 minutes.

Mbokani wasn't to be denied a minute later though as he cleverly guided an early cross in from Jonny Howson beyond Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and into the far corner.

Leicester substitute Leonardo Ulloa saw a goal chalked off shortly after for a push on Cameron Jerome while Bassong headed over late on as time ran out for the Canaries.
