Celtic star Griffiths out to impress Rodgers

Leigh Griffiths accepts he has to convince new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers he is the number one choice despite last season becoming the first Celtic player to score 40 goals in a campaign since Henrik Larsson 12 years ago.

The 25-year-old Scottish international -- whose goals propelled Celtic to the title last term -- made the remarks after picking up the Scottish Premiership Player of the Year award to add to three others he accrued on the back of his sparkling season.

"Different managers have different opinions," said Griffiths.

"He (Rodgers) will have his own philosophy on how he wants to play but hopefully I fit into that.

"It took me a long time under Ronny (Deila the former manager who resigned) to force myself into the squad and hopefully it doesn't take me as long with the new gaffer.

"But if it does, I will do the exact same, bide my time and when the chance comes I will try to take it with both hands."

Rodgers, who has been given 15million pounds (19.3million euros) as a transfer war chest, was a high-profile choice to replace Deila, who resigned after heavy criticism from Celtic fans following domestic cup semi-final defeats to bitter historical rivals Rangers and Ross County and poor European performances.
