Former England midfielder Paul Ince was sacked as manager of second-tier Blackpool on Tuesday.

Ince was fired by the north-west side after a run of nine defeats in 10 games meant Blackpool had won just one point in English football's Championship, the division below the elite Premier League, since November.

Also on their way out of Bloomfield Road are Ince's assistants, Alex Rae and Steve Thompson.

The club added veteran midfielder Barry Ferguson, 35, would take charge of training from Thursday onwards.

"Blackpool Football Club can confirm that manager Paul Ince and assistants Alex Rae and Steve Thompson have had their contracts terminated with immediate effect," said a statement on Blackpool's website issued Tuesday.

"Barry Ferguson will take charge of training when the players return on Thursday. A further announcement will be made in due course."

Although Blackpool are still eight points above the relegation zone they've already had nine players sent off so far this season.

Ince, 46, joined Blackpool in February last year, having previously managed Macclesfield, MK Dons and Notts County, and saw the Seasiders to a respectable mid-table finish.

This season Blackpool led the table in August and were still in the top four in November before their wretched run of results started.

By then, Ince had received a five-game stadium ban from the Football Association for an expletive-laden rant and physical assault on a fourth official at a game in Bournemouth in September.
