Sporting win first Portuguese League Cup
Sporting Lisbon claimed their first major trophy in three years with a penalty shoot-out victory over Vitoria Setubal after a 1-1 draw in Saturday's Portuguese League Cup final in Braga.
Goncalo Paciencia gave Setubal a shock fourth-minute lead, but Dutch international striker Bas Dost rescued Jorge Jesus' Sporting with an 80th-minute penalty.
Dost, 28, has now scored 25 goals in all competitions this season.
Portugal midfielder William Carvalho stroked in the winning spot-kick as it finished 5-4 on penalties, giving the Lisbon giants their maiden League Cup crown and first major title since the 2015 Portuguese Cup.
Sporting, who returned to the Champions League this season but finished behind Barcelona and Juventus in their group, are also still in the hunt for a first league crown in 16 years, sitting one point behind leaders Porto in second.
