Testing young talent ahead of the 2018 World Cup, American coach Jurgen Klinsmann named 15 players aged under 25 to the roster for Wednesday's friendly at the Czech Republic.

The US squad taking the field in Prague will feature 11 players with 10 or fewer caps, five seeking their debut with the squad, and 10 members of the American side that reached the last 16 at the World Cup in Brazil two months ago.

"We look at this as the start of our project towards Russia in 2018 and in this first step we get to look at many of our talented young players based in Europe," Klinsmann said Thursday.

The lineup includes 18-year-old Fulham midfielder Emerson Hyndman, 18-year-old Utrecht forward Rubio Rubin and 19-year-old Bayern Munich playmaker Julian Green, who scored for the Americans against Belgium in a round-of-16 World Cup loss.

"We have some great youngsters coming through the ranks that are starting to break through with their clubs teams and are ready to challenge for spots on the senior team, and even most of our World Cup veterans from Brazil on this roster will be coming into the prime of their careers in the next four years, so this is an exciting opportunity," Klinsmann said.

Jozy Altidore, a 24-year-old forward for England's Sunderland, has the most caps of any player in the lineup at 71.

German-born US talent will be on display, represented by Eintracht Frankfurt defender Tim Chandler, Hertha Berlin defender John Brooks, Ingolstadt defender Alfredo Morales and Borussia Moenchengladbach defender Fabian Johnson.

"It's an especially good opportunity for us to look at the younger players based in Europe, which we don't get to do very often because of their schedules," Klinsmann said. "It's a great chance for them to experience our environment."

Other European-based talent who could receive a look from Klinsmann include Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan, Southampton goalkeeper Cody Cropper, Norwegian midfielder Mix Diskerud, defender Geoff Cameron and midfielder Brek Shea of England's Stoke City, 1860 Munich forward Bobby Wood, Bolton defender Tim Ream and Nantes midfielder Alejandro Bedoya.

"We are curious about the next generation of players breaking in," Klinsmann said. "This is vital toward Russia 2018, that we communicate now, four years away.

"There is a path laid out and as a player you have to decide at the end of the day if you make that path or not. The players have to have that drive, hunger and determination to go to the highest level possible.

"Show us what you have. Show us your talent and be confident and go for your next level. This is what comes up now. It's about young players coming in and hopefully doing well."
