Holders Bayern Munich have fresh injury woes ahead of Wednesday's mouth-watering German Cup quarter-final at Bayer Leverkusen with Germany star Bastian Schweinsteiger the latest on their casualty list.

An injury to his left ankle meant Germany's captain hobbled out of Saturday's 1-0 win at Borussia Dortmund which kept Bayern 10-points clear in the Bundesliga and on course for a third consecutive league title.

Bayern are already missing a trio of injured stars in David Alaba, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery and are hoping for good news when Schweinsteiger's ankle is examined on Sunday.

Bayern's vice-captain endured a lengthy layoff after the World Cup with a knee problem, which saw him miss the entire first half of the season.

"It won't be a big problem, 'Basti' is a tough old dog," Bayern's director of sport Matthias Sammer told broadcaster ZDF.

"We are hoping it'll be done and dusted in a day or two."

But it looks likely that the defensive midfielder will miss Wednesday's cup clash at Leverkusen as the runaway Germany league leaders bid to repeat their 2013 treble of German league, cup and Champions League titles.

The priority is to have Schweinsteiger fit for their Champions League quarter-final, first-leg, clash away at FC Porto on April 15.

Bayern are bidding to win the German Cup for a record 18th time with the final to be held at Berlin's Olympic Stadium on May 27.
