Gladbach's Xhaka plays down Liverpool rumours

Swiss international Granit Xhaka on Saturday played down rumours that Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are set to swoop for the Borussia Moenchengladbach defensive midfielder next summer.

German daily Bild reported last week that Liverpool are considering paying 28 million euros ($29.8m) for Xhaka after Bayern Munich tried to sign the Swiss star before the start of this season for 35 million euros.

"My job is to concentrate on football, I still have a contract until 2019 and I am happy here," he told German Sky.

"That is what counts and everything is a matter for my father (his agent)."

The 23-year-old was suspended for Saturday's 2-1 win over Hanover 96 which lifted his side to fourth in the table.

Xhaka has won 39 caps for Switzerland and was part of their 2014 World Cup squad which reached the knockout stages.

His performances last season helped Gladbach finish third last season to qualify for the Champions League's group stages.
