Four-goal Kruse cool on Confed Cup hopes

Max Kruse netted all four of Werder Bremen's goals in Saturday's 4-2 Bundesliga win at Ingolstadt, but was ambivalent about ending his Germany exile at June's Confederations Cup.

The 29-year-old converted a first-half penalty then hit three goals in the final 15 minutes to single-handedly seal Bremen's away win which left them sixth in the table and set for a Europa League place next season.

Kruse made the last of his 14 appearances, scoring four goals, for Germany in October 2015.

However, he was kicked out of the squad by head coach Joachim Loew in March 2016 for attracting the wrong sort of headlines including leaving 75,000 euros ($80,448) of poker winnings in the back of a Berlin taxi.

Loew says he wants to blood players at the Confederations Cup in Russia, from June 17-July 2, but Kruse was cool about his chances of a call-up despite 13 goals in 19 Bundesliga games including nine in his last seven matches.

"You'll have to ask him, I can't judge that," said Bremen's match-winner Kruse when asked about a possible Germany call-up from Loew.

"I just try to put in the performances from week to week and work hard on myself."

Kruse paid tribute to his Bremen team who have gone from the bottom three in September to challenge for European competition under coach Alexander Nouri.

Kruse's goals cancelled out Pascal Gross's penalty and Dario Lezcano's goal for relegation-threatened Ingolstadt as Werder came from 2-1 down to record an emphatic win with Bremen unbeaten in their last ten games.

"As a team, we put in a battling display and the comeback was down to our belief," said Kruse.

"I am happy that I scored the goals, but this was a deserved win for the whole team and club."
