Endgame Summary:
At the end it was a very one-sided game with Honduras having virtually no noteworthy attempts. France had two hits to the cross bar in the first half and scored the lead by converting a penalty just before the half-time break. Simultaneously Palacios was sent off for his second booking. After play resumed, it took Le Bleus only two minutes to increase their lead with a nice effort from Benzema, though it was declared to be an own goal. Besides, for the first time in world cup history, the Goal Control technology was needed to determine whether it's a goal or not. For the remaining time it was still France controlling the game, with Benzema finally scoring his second goal after 72 minutes. Los Catrachos stood out only for playing extremely rough as seen in their last friendly match. All in all, it's a well-deserved win for l'Equipe Tricolor.

Full-Time
89'
They still have some energy left! Evra dashes to the left wing and plays a precise pass into the middle, but Matuidi's left footed onetimer goes right over the bar.
88'
Maybe for the last time the French players assemble around la H's penalty area, but they can't find a gap to position themself in a shooting position.
86'
The final stage of this game is quite boring, because it's mainly France passing the ball back and forth and Honduras continuing to defend rather roughly.
83'
Maynor Figueroa (Honduras) is shown a yellow card
Before this match started, there was an accusation about Honduras playing too rough, which was dismissed by their coach Luis Fernando Suárez. But when you look at this foul, you can understand the allegations: Figueroa's horrible challenge with his elongated leg against Matuidi's knee is absolutely worth a booking.
80'
France are only keen on keeping the ball in their possession and making los Catrachos run for it. Unsurprisingly this strategy works just fine.
78'
Valbuena goes off and is replaced by Giroud. This means that Benzema will act as left winger, while the Arsenal player will act as central striker.
78'
Substitution (in) France -> Olivier Giroud
78'
Substitution (out) France -> Matthieu Valbuena
75'
France get a corner and Valbuena swings it in, but it comes to nothing.
72'
Goooal for France, 3:0 by Karim Benzema
What a superb goal! Following the free-kick, Debuchy's effort is blocked and the rebound goes to Benzema. The Real Madrid striker doesn't hesitate but rather shoots immediately from a very pointed angle. His powerful attempt from about ten metres at the right side of the box goes straigt into the higher rear corner of the goal!
71'
Valbuena is able to escape on the right border of the penalty area. So Figueroa has virtually no other option than fouling the French winger.
68'
It would be a huge surprise if Honduras somehow could managed to come back after having a two-goal deficit. To be honest, it's far more likely that the score will remain the same.
65'
Deschmaps is starting to give his key players a rest. Cabaye goes off and Mavuba is sent on the pitch instead.
65'
Substitution (in) France -> Rio Mavuba
65'
Substitution (out) France -> Yohan Cabaye
63'
Matuidi almost scores the 3-0! After a quick low pass from the left hand side the PSG midfielder tries a onetimer, but his shot goes right pass the left post.
61'
Now with a two goal lead, France look pretty confident and don't give away control of the ball. La Bicolor on the other side is trying to play more offensively, but without any success.
58'
Honduras make a substitution, too: Najar goes off and is replaced by Claros.
58'
Substitution (in) Honduras -> Jorge Claros
58'
Substitution (out) Honduras -> Andy Najar
57'
Sissoko is substituted for Pogba, so Deschamps probably wants to decrease the risk one of his players of being sent off for a second yellor card.
57'
Substitution (in) France -> Moussa Sissoko
57'
Substitution (out) France -> Paul Pogba
55'
This time he can make a save! Benzema has another attempt from about ten metres distance, but Valladares can parry the shot.
53'
Oscar García (Honduras) is shown a yellow card
Oscar García tackles Evra from the back and therefor is shown a yellow card. No discussion needed here either.
51'
That's really a relief, not having to discuss this goal since the technology clearly shows that the ball is in. The goal camera should be used everywhere!
48'
Goooal for France, 2:0 by Noel Valladares (own goal)
That's the first goal of the tournament where the Goal Control technology is needed! A superb diagonal cross from the right wing comes to Benzema, who converts it with a volley! His shot bounces off the right post onto the left one. There Valladares is trying to get a grip of the ball but instead puts it into his own goal.
46'
Play resumes with two substistutions for Honduras: Bengtson and the injured Bernárdez are replaced by Boniek and Osman Chávez.
46'
Substitution (in) Honduras -> Osman Chávez
46'
Substitution (out) Honduras -> Victor Bernárdez
46'
Substitution (in) Honduras -> Oscar García
46'
Substitution (out) Honduras -> Jerry Bengtson

Second Half begins
45'
Halftime Summary:
Unsurprisingly, the French took over control from the beginning and were dominant for the whole first half, having 64:36% ball possession. While l'Equipe Tricolor were able to create some promising chances in the first 25 minutes and hit the crossbar not just once, but twice. However, bit by bit Le Bleus became more impatient and didn't find a way to increase the pressure. Besides, there were many fouls on both sides, with Pogba being lucky not to be sent off, while Palacios was after being booked twice. Right before the half-time break he fouled Pogba inside the box and subconsequently Benzema scored the leading goal by converting the penalty.
45'
Half-Time
45'
Yohan Cabaye (France) is shown a yellow card
Cabaye hits Costly with his elongated leg and is rightly booked.
45'
Goooal for France, 1:0 by Karim Benzema
Benzema scores! The Real Madrid striker easily converts the penalty with a waist-high shot into the left side of the goal.
43'
Wilson Palacios (Honduras) is booked a 2nd time and sent off
Giving the penalty may be okay, but that's definitely not a yellow card! It's not a bad foul at all, so sending Palacios off is not quite right. However, it's also a very dumb foul because the culprit's foul is absolutely unnecessary.
42'
France get a penalty! While trying to win the header, Palacios jumps right into Pogba and though giving a penalty isn't mandatory in this situation, it's alright to do so, because Palacios could be a little more cautious.
40'
Ouch! As Bernárdez clears a cross from the right wing, he seems to make a wrong step and seems to sustain an knee injury. For now he's getting medical attendance.
37'
But the corner comes to nothing! Right now the French are too harmless, they're just passing the ball back and forth, without finding a gap between the Honduran defenders.
36'
After Matuidi can break through on the left wing he tries to center the ball for Benzema, but Figueroa can block the ball for a corner.
33'
More and more the favourties are getting frustrated and impatient despite being the dominant team here. They just have to be more endurance.
31'
After half an hour of play time we can state that Honruas' defending strategy works pretty well, although Le Blues had at least two great chances. Still, France can't find a way to break the spell.
28'
Paul Pogba (France) is shown a yellow card
... because of that, both players are shown the yellow card. One could also think about sending off Pogba, at least other referees did so in similar situations.
28'
Wilson Palacios (Honduras) is shown a yellow card
Palacios is booked for treading on Pogba's feet, but the Frenchman lashs out to his opponent in return...
25'
Right now it's solely the French team attacking while the Hondurans can't even find a way to get into the opposition's half. So clearly, this game is as one-sided as expected.
23'
France hits the bar again! A cross comes in from the left hand side, but Griezmann's header touches the crossbar and goes off the pitch.
21'
Honduras are defending quite effective, l'Equipe Tricolor can't find a way through the opposition's defense for now. Of course a player like Ribéry would help to shake things up a little bit.
18'
At this stage the flow of the game is repeatedly interrupted, mostly because of some fouls. Still, France is in full control of the game.
15'
Matuidi hits the crossbar! Valbuenas cross flies nicely thorugh the penalty area and to the Paris St. Germain midfielder. The 27-year-old immediatly shoots with his left foot from about eight metres distance. But Valladares can somehow deflect the ball with his fingers onto the bar.
14'
For the third time within minutes Le Bleus get a free-kick from the right hand side. So far Valladares could parry the opposition's crosses, will he continue to do so?
12'
Los Catrachos almost are able to counterattack! But they lose the ball too quickly and therefor can't create any upcoming danger for the French defense.
10'
That's simply not good enough! A cross from the right wing comes to the border of the penalty box, but Benzema's following header goes far off target.
7'
Patrice Evra (France) is shown a yellow card
Evra is booked early in this match for a tripping challenge on Najar.
6'
This is the first attempt in this game! After Valladares can't save a cross from the right wing, Griezmann tries to convert the rebound into a left footed shot onto the right corner of the goal. But Garrido blocks the effort of the San Sebastian winger.
4'
This could prove to be a powerful instrument for Honduras, if they use it right! A long ball from the left hand side initiating from La H's half comes to Bengtson. But the striker with the Scandinavian sounding name is offside.
2'
Honduras try to rapidly unleash a counter-attack after Cabaye loses the ball at the halfway line. But Debuchy can stop a pass to the left wing before Izaguirre can reach it.

Here we go, the game begins!

Kick-Off
By the way, this is the very first game between the national teams of these two Nations!
Despite being depicted as the absolute underdog in this tournament, the Hondurans can take encouragement from yesterdays upset when Costa Rica won 3-1 against Uruguay. Obviously Luis Fernando Suárez did notice this, too: "I congratulate Costa Rica and (their coach) Jorge (Luis Pinto). I am not surprised because I know how good a team Costa Rica are, but it doesn't change my thoughts for tomorrow at all."
The French are missing their star and reigning "UEFA Best Player in Europe" Franck Ribéry because of a back injury. In the past few days, a dispute developed between the French team physician Franck Le Gall and Bayern Munich's (and Germany's) worldwide acknowledged team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. Le Gall accused the Bavarian club of using too many injections and thus causing Ribéry to be afraid of injections. However, yesterday the playmaking winger wanted to put things straight: "I am not scared of injections. But I did not want to be injected with cortisone by the French doctor."
His counterpart Didier Deschamps also tried not to emphasize the physicial aspect of Honduras' play strategy: "They are aggressive and know how to defend, I saw that in the friendly against England. They played very well as a team even with 10 players and they have good technical skills. But they don't just defend, otherwise they wouldn't be ranked 31st in the world."
Luis Fernando Suárez obviously doesn't mind since the Honduran national team manager afterwards was defending his team's style of play and partly also justifying it: "We played 16 games of qualifiers and had no red cards so that shows that we play within the rules. We play with a lot of determination and we are intense, but that is allowed and important in football."
In that game against the Three Lions la H did play rather roughly, attacking their opponents without any caution. As a result of that, the Honduran player Brayan Beckeles was sent off after he received his second yellow card. However, Emilio Izaguirre should've already been sent off in the first half for kicking an English player who was lying on the ground. Keep in mind, all this happened in a so called friendly match.
Honduras on the other hand finished third in the CONCACAF qualifying, even leaving a strong team like Mexico behind. In 2014, la Bicolor played four friendly matches, winning against Venezuela (2-1) but losing to Turkey (0-2) and Israel (2-4). But in their last game before the WC los Catrachos did manage to achieve a 0-0 draw against England.
With four friendlies in preparation for the world cup, l'Equipe Tricolore didn't lose even one of them, but rather beat the Netherlands (2-0), Norway (4-0) and Jamaica (8-0). In between the French also drawed with Paraguay (1-1).
France came second in their qualifying group, finishing with only one defeat and a three-point-deficit to Spain. In the following relegation round Le Blues lost 0-2 to Ukraine in Kiev, but managed to bring in a 3-0 victory in the second leg and therefor qualified for this WC.
