Fulltime Summary:
Can there be better start to the knockout stage than this thriller? Both teams couldn't get to full speed in an intensive duel through 120 minutes and set up an exciting finish! Brazil remains unbeaten against Chile on home soil and eliminates La Roja for the fourth time in as many World Cup duels. But the question remains whether the hosts can really challenge the European top-class with unconvincing efforts like tonight. But that's a question to be answered in the future, for now it's party time in Belo Horizonte!

Second Half Summary:
The game hasn't had much to offer in an intensive but overall not very eventful extra time so a penalty shootout is the consequent result. Chile limped over the finish line, but fought to the end and had the best chance of overtime to eliminate the hosts late. Can unconvincing Brazil keep their cool from the spot or will their dreams be shattered in the next minutes?

The favorite is a tad more involved so far compared to the second half of regulation.

Second Half Summary:
After an encouraging showing in the first half, Brazil gradually declined in the second half and could only threaten the Chilean side with rare counterattacks. It was the underdog who was searching for the decisive goal late, but the defense of the hosts had little problems with the attacks of La Roja as well. It's the first game in knockout stage and we are going overtime already!

46'
Second Half begins
45'
Halftime Summary:
It's been the tough challenge that Brazil was expecting, but Scolari's men were mainly hampered by their own mistakes throughout. The Seleção was the more engaged side and controlled the midfield well, but could even be down at half after crucial errors by Hulk and Luiz Gustavo. Chile meanwhile can't show their pace and playmaking that made them famous in the group stage, because the opponent is forcing errors with their aggressiveness. Stay tuned!

Half-Time

35'
Neymar comes close! The superstar finds himself on the receiving end of a cross from the right and his deflected header misses just wide.
33'
The hosts will ask themselves how that happened because the play developed off an own throw-in. Brazil was caught sleeping.
32'
Goooal for Chile, 1:1 by Alexis Sánchez
Vargas steals possession on the right side after a loose touch from Hulk and doesn't hesitate a second to fire the ball into the box. The picked out Barcelona man calmly gathers and strikes into the bottom-left corner.
31'
Other than the obvious booking for Mena Webb continues to look the other way. Fernandinho has more than earned a yellow for yet another tactical foul, but the English referee lets him get away.
30'
Scolari is livid at the sideline because Arturo Vidal goes straight through Neymar with his boot. The star needs treatment but is able to continue.
28'
Neymar is running down every ball up front and draws the foul at the halfway line.
27'
The hosts surrender most of the possession to Chile the last minutes, but they pressure the opponent well enough to not let them near their goal.
25'
Chile is poking the ball around in midfield but can't find their way through the firm Seleção defense.
24'
Neymar is one lucky man right now as he catches Medel with a late challenge. A yellow card would suspend him for the next round. It remains feisty.
23'
With the lead, Brazil falls back noticeably and is looking for options in transition.
22'
Marcelo Díaz delivers a free-kick into the penalty box, but the defense heads it away.
21'

17'
Eugenio Mena (Chile) is shown a yellow card
He uses his hand to cut out Oscar's pass and would miss a potential quarter final.
15'
Neymar is off to the races and has only one man to beat, but is cut off well and has to slow down the play.
14'
Brazil wins a dangerous free-kick on the left side, but the delivery is claimed by Bravo.
13'
On the other end it's Hulk that stumbles inside the box from light contact after a brilliant one-two with Neymar. Not enough for the English referee again.
11'
A deep ball finds Alexis Sánchez on the right side and he plays a clever pass across the six yard box. Onrushing Vargas gets a little push from David Luiz, but Webb waves it off.

7'
An early reason for concern for the hosts here because Neymar has to be treated at the sideline. He returns but is limping.
6'

5'
It's a lively and physical start and Brazil earns its first corner.
4'
After two rough challenges in midfield Howard Webb has to think about an early booking. Fernandinho and Medel have been the guilty men.
2'
The atmosphere is expectedly great. Chile earns a first free-kick, but aerial balls have not been particularly threatening from La Roja throughout the tournament.
1'
We're underway!
1'
Kick-Off
Teams are coming out and the national anthems are being played! The temper is rising in Belo Horizonte!
Both teams feature frantic fan bases so you can expect a great atmosphere in the stands. It's all set in Belo Horizonte and we await the teams led by experienced referee Howard Webb and his crew.
The battle on the wings could be key, because the full backs of both sides like to make their way into opposing territory and we can certainly be curious whether this one will develop into a wild South American duel or both teams decide to slow down the game with so much at stake. Chile could make history as La Roja never managed to beat Brazil on their home soil. They also could advance to the quarter finals for the first time since 1962.
Luiz Felipe Scolari makes one change to his side as Tottenham Hotspur's Paulinho finds himself on the bench following some lacklustre displays and Fernandinho takes over in the defensive midfield next to Luiz Gustavo. Criticized Fred remains up front and is flanked by Neymar and Hulk. The coach said he wants his men to keep their cool today and we might see a careful approach to the game against the fast-paced opponent.
The full lineups can be found here.
In his quest to spoil the party of the hosts, Jorge Sampaoli will field the team that had so little trouble with underdog Australia and reigning champion Spain. Arturo Vidal will slot back in after being rested against the Netherlands and takes over the playmaking spot behind strikers Alexis Sánchez and Eduardo Vargas.
Although Brazil is unbeaten against La Roja in 14 years, including a 3-0 victory in the last 16 of 2010, Scolari said that if he could, he would have chosen another opponent as Chile presents a tough challenge. At least Neymar has lived up to the hype and is currently level with Messi and Thomas Muller at the top of the World Cup scoring charts. As a team though, the hosts have to step up their game to come out on top against their lively South American rivals.
After an exciting group stage with quite a lot of surprises, it's not getting any easier for the teams that survived. It's also do or die for the hosts, who weren't as convincing as many thought they'd be so far but showed the effectiveness they needed. They square off against a dangerous Chilean team that certainly doesn't lack the confidence to end any title hopes of the Seleção earlier than expected.
Janosch Ferda is commentating for you. Enjoy!
Welcome to the start of the knockout phase in Brazil! The hosts will try to fend off Chile on their way to the title in Belo Horizonte.
