Full-Time Colombia goes through to the quarterfinal after a 2:0 victory over Uruguay! And the biggest achievement in the Colombian World Cup history is due to James Rodríguez and David Ospina. Rodríguez was the man for the goals tonight, scoring a stunning 1:0 in the first half and finishing a fantastic combination in the 50th minute for Colombian's second. With now five goals on his scoreline Rodríguez leads the scoring chart of the World Cup. If he adds some more in the next game he can say thanks to his keeper Ospina. He was the one who made some cracking saves against the ongoing attacks by the Uruguayan in the last thirty minutes. Uruguay found their way into the game after coach Óscar Tabárez made some changes during the second half. But those changes came to late and therefore Colombia is a well deserved participant of the quarterfinal. They will play against the home side Brazil next friday. A game with the potential to be truly amazing! But for now we thank you for your attendance and wish you a good night!

Pablo Armero try to buy some time on the right wing and breaks through. He then decides to cross the into the box but his tired legs are not able to do anything with precision anymore. The cross sails far away out of the box. But with three minutes left on the clock and two goals ahead this won't hurt him so much.

Uruguay grows desperate on David Ospina! Edison Cavani receives a fine pass on the left wing and pulls into the center. Pablo Armero (Colombia) is shown a yellow card
Pablo Armero triggers a turmoil at the sideline. The Colombian blocks a freekick to waste some time. Gastón Ramírez shows no remorse and takes the freekick anyway hitting Armero hard in doing so. The Uruguayan is lucky not to be send off in this scene because although Armero wasted the time it was still a quite brutal action by Ramírez. But Kuipers decides to leave him unharmed. The only Uruguayan player who is booked is Diego Lugano who's sitting on the bench and berated Armero after he fell to the ground.
77'
Diego Lugano (Uruguay) is shown a yellow card
75'
Christian Stuani almost scores a goal by incident! The Uruguayan attacker sends a high ball from the right site of the box into the center and hopes for god's help. God is almost on his site as his shot gets longer and longer and almost plummets into the Colombian net at the far post. But Ospina reaches the ball with one hand and sends it past the post.
72'
For the first time since ten minutes Colombia find their way into the half of Uruguay. But James Rodríguez is tackled just before he could have another shot on goal from just outside the box. The balls end up on the right Colombian wing. But Juan Cuadrado's cross finds no one in the box.

Uruguay are pressuring hard at the moment. First it is Cristian Rodríguez whose run through the center is not interupeted by any Colombian defender. He uses the space to fire a fine shot onto the left corner of the goal and David Ospina needs all his skills to save this on. Thirty seconds later the keeper is needed again. He intercepts a cross by Edison Cavani who found some space on the left site.
61'
Juan Cuadrado with a little dance on the right wing. Diego Godín falls to the ground trying to end this spectacel but in the end it is Egidio Arévalo who brings down the Colombian attacker. But the following freekick is no danger for the Uruguayan defense.
58'
Uruguay haven't given up just yet. Álvaro González tries to turn the tide with a shot from 27 meters. But it's an easy save for David Ospina who protects his right corner well.

Goooal for Colombia, 2:0 by James Rodríguez
A great combination gives Colombia the 2:0 lead! The ball travels from the right to the left site. The Uruguayan defense is streched out so that the left full-back Pablo Armero finds acres of space. His fine cross finds Juan Cuadrado at the far post. The midfielder does very well laying of the cross into the center where James Rodríguez has no problems to score is his second goal in this match!
47'
Uruguay with a good first impression. The "Celeste" attack on the left wing after only some seconds in the second half. But the first cross from the left is cleared by the defense and the following corner is caught out of the sky by David Ospina.
46'
Both teams are back on the pitch! No changes have been made by the two coaches.

Second Half begins
45'
Half-Time Colombia is on its way to the quarterfinals leading with 1:0 against Uruguay after the first half. It's been 45 minutes of hard and intense work by both teams with one moment of pure genius by James Rodríguez. His sensational goal in the 28th minute was not only one of the few highlights of this match but one of the best goals scored at this World Cup so far. The lead for Colombia is overall deserved because the side of José Pekerman had more dangerous shots on goal and controled the game almost all the time. As aspected Uruguay lack ofensive power with Luis Suarez missing. If the remaining players won't show their skills in the second half Uruguay faces an early elimination from the tournament.
39'
Best opportunity for Uruguay by Álvaro González! The midfielder picks up a high ball with chest and sends a smasing volley onto the goal of David Ospina. Edinson Cavani tries to give the shot a flick with his head but doesn't touch the ball. So keeper Ospina's quick reaction is successfull. A possible goal would have been disallowed anyway because Cavani was supposed to be offside. But that was very close.
38'
The heat is on in Rio! Mario Yepes blocks Diego Forlán in the Colombian box while the striker is trying to get into a good position for a cross. After the cross is cleared Forlan and Yepes exchange some more psyical and verbal interactions until Björn Kuipers disrupts the fight with some calming words.
36'
Teófilo Gutiérrez tries to impersonates his teammate James. But the volley from the striker fired from the edge of the box is harmless and no problem for Muslera this time.
32'
Uruguay try to find an answer. Edison Cavani finds himself in a perfect position for a freekick. He does well bending the ball over the wall but misses the crossbar by some inches.
28'
Goooal for Colombia, 1:0 by James Rodríguez
But this goal compensates a lot! A long ball into the box is headed out but the Uruguayan defense. Abel Aguilar wins the rebound and heads the ball to James Rodríguez who than shows his almost magical skills. He controls the ball with his chest 23 meters away from goal, turns and fires a volley onto the goal of Muslera. The keeper stretches his hands as hard as he can but can't reach the perfect shot. It bounces of the underside of the crossbar into the Uruguayan goal.
26'
It is still a game which is a plessure for tactic fans but not for those who want to be entertained.
22'
The first corner of the game sees Jackson Martínez causing trouble in the Uruguayan box. He gets his head to the cross from the right site but the ball bounces of the chest of Diego Godín. The following confusion isn't utilised by Jackson or his teammates.
19'
If short passing is out of the equation you go with high and long passes into the box. But those passes are very hard to control for a striker as Edison Cavani has to experience when he fails to collect the ball out of the sky with his right foot.
18'
But so far none of the teams were able to combinate into the box of the opponent. Both defensive lines are very organized and leave no space whatsoever for the attackers.
14'
Now it is Diego Forlán who tries a long distance shot on the other side. But the shot from 25 meters flies high above the goal and is no danger at all for keeper David Ospina.
11'
Instead, it is Juan Zúñiga who finishes a counterattack with a smashing shot from 20 meters on the Uruguayan goal. But the shot misses the precision needed to cause Fernando Muslera a lot of trouble. The shot aims right at the keeper who controls the ball with his second contact.
9'
After nine minutes Uruguay possess the ball for the first time in this game longer than a few seconds. They push the Colombian players into their half but the Uruguayan attackers can't finde a gap in the lines.
6'
Juan Cuadrado has the next opportunity after a set-piece. This time it is Edison Cavani who fouls Juan Zúñiga 30 meters away from goal. Cuadrado has a go on goal and his shot is dangerously deflected by a Colombian head. But the ball ends up one meter above the crossbar.
4'
And with power that is beyond the rules. The very fast Juan Cuadrado tries to break through on the right wing and can only be stopped by being tripped by Álvaro Pereira. But the following freekick by James Rodríguez is punched out of the box by keeper Fernando Muslera.
3'
Very intense beginning by both teams. The duels in midfield are carried out with all the power which is allowed by the rules.
1'
The game is underway! Colombia is wearing their familiar yellow jerseys while the Uruguyan are dressed in the also very known combination of black shorts and blue shirts.

Kick-Off
The referee tonight is the Dutch Björn Kuipers. A very experienced referee who whistled the Champions-League-Finale between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid this year.
Because Colombia were already qualified Pekerman gave almost his entire starting eleven a rest in the last group game against Japan. The bench-players showed their abilities during the 4:1 destruction of the Japanese side but only Jackson Martinez managed to replace a player who started in the second group match against the Ivory Coast. Victor Ibarbo has to take a seat on the bench for him.
And the premises to supersde the Colombian side of the World Cup 1990 with the legendary Carlos Valderrama couldn't be better. The side of the Argentine coach José Pekerman won their group against Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan in a very superior manner. Pekerman formed a team with a good mixture of veteran players like defender Mario Yepes and young players like James Rodríguez who have a distinct attacking spirit. Nine goals in three matches show that the Uruguayan defense has a though challenge on their hands today.
In the realm of the shades caused by the Suarez incident the Colombian side was able to fully concentrate on the game tonight without a lot media attention. If they win tonight it would be the biggest success for the „Cafeteros“ in World Cup history.
It is the only change coach Tabárez makes in comparison to the match against Italy. Apart from that he trusts the same players who were able to win against the European 1:0 due to a goal by center-back Diego Godin who will organize the defense tonight.
Teamspirit is badly needed because the loss of Suarez is a huge deprivation for the Uruguayan. Without Suarez the „Celeste“ lost their first game of the World Cup against Costa Rica before the key player returned to the starting eleven and scored two goals against England. Today the burden to create dangerous situation has to be carried by Edison Cavani and oldie Diego Forlán who replaces Suarez.
Prior to the the game all the talk is about the Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez. The striker was banned by the FIFA for nine international games and for four months of clubfootball after his biting-attack on the Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini in the last group match. While a lot of people agree to this sanction for Suarez's third bite in his career the Uruguayan players, officials and inhabitants smell a conspirary against their country. Us against the world“ could be the Uruguayan motto for today and the suspension of Suarez could boost the team spirit of the side of coach Oscar Tabárez.
Commentating for you is Maximilian Rieger. Have fun!
