Fulltime Summary:
Well that was one of those games where one team is dominating virtually all the time and still the other one emerges victorious. Team USA took the lead right in the first minute of the game, but didn't continue to attack. Instead Klinsmann's squad concentrated on defending and left having the ball to their opposition, who had 59:41% possession. Additionally, Ghana had 21:8 shots, while only 8:7 of those went on target. The spectators saw many attempts go widely off, so clearly the Black Stars' problems were a lack of precision and efficiency. The Yanks on the other hand showed much the latter and converted their few real chances into two goals. Because after Ghana equalized in the 84th minute with a beautiful team effort, it took the Stars and Stripes only two minutes to restore their lead with a header following a corner kick. So finally the United States win despite being the inferior team.

Full-Time

The Black Stars are trying everything! Asamoah plays a high one-two with Muntari and gets the ball back. But his cross from the left border of the penalty area doesn't create any danger.
90'
Sulley Ali Muntari (Ghana) is shown a yellow card
Muntari is booked for a harsh challenge against Dempsey, but you can bet that the Milan player doesn't care at all at this time.
90'
The ref adds five minutes of stoppage time! can Ghana use it to score the 2-2?
88'
That's absolutely crazy! Honestly Team USA don't deserve this win at all, since they were defending all the time. Now Ghana have a corner from the right, but it comes to nothing.
86'
Goooal for USA, 1:2 by John Anthony Brooks
That's Unbelieveable! Ghana just managed to equalize and now it's the USA leading again! Zusi swings in a corner from the right and his curved cross comes right in front of the six-yard-box, where Brooks is able to convert with a fine diving header!
84'
Obviously, the equalizer is more than well-earned, in fact Ghana should be leading. can they score another goal, too?
82'
Goooal for Ghana, 1:1 by André Ayew
That's a superb goal! Asamoah plays a surprising pass with his left foot to Gyan, who's standing at the left border of the box. With a nice heel pass he finds André Ayew, who can score from about eight metres with his left sidefoot!
81'
The Yanks somehow manage to keep the ball in the opposition's half for some time, but then Ghana takes over control again.
79'
At least Team USA still can make a shot! Johnson dribbles through the left side and passes to Dempsey, who's attempt from about 14 metres is easily saved by Kwarasey.
77'
Both teams make a player change now: Bedoya seems to be chipped and goes off the pitch for Zusi, while Adomah comes in to replace Atsu.
77'
Substitution (in) Ghana -> Albert Adomah
77'
Substitution (out) Ghana -> Christian Atsu
77'
Substitution (in) USA -> Graham Zusi
77'
Substitution (out) USA -> Alejandro Bedoya
74'
This is really a one-sided second half until now, Ghana clearly are the superior team. Oone has to say, the Americans show a quite weak performance by just hoping to maintain their lead by defending throughout the whole game.
71'
Now it's time for an experienced player! The longtime Chelsea player Essien is substituted onto the pitch, replacing Rabiu.
71'
Substitution (in) Ghana -> Michael Essien
71'
Substitution (out) Ghana -> Mohammed Rabiu
68'
Boateng tries the same kind of shot Jones did a few minutes before and like his counterpart, the midfielder fails to create danger. His shot goes over the bar and onto the stance.
65'
The Black Stars clearly lack efficiency! Asamoah has an effort from just inside the box, but Howard manages to parry the dipping shot.
63'
At least they have their first attempt in the second half! Jones boldly shoots from about 35 metres and his powerful effort isn't bad at all! But Kwarasey can catch it without any problems.
61'
Right now the Yanks can't really free themselves from the pressure their opposition is applying on them. So clearly this will be a one-sided game for the remaining 30 minutes.
59'
Kwasi Appiah makes his first substitution, Boateng replaces Jordan Ayew. Maybe the polyvalent Schalke 04 midfielder can help Ghana be more effective.
59'
Substitution (in) Ghana -> Kevin-Prince Boateng
59'
Substitution (out) Ghana -> Jordan Ayew
58'
How many chances do the Ghanaians need? Again it's Gyan with a header in the center of the penalty area, but Howard can parry for a corner. However, the Black Stars' corners aren't that intimidating so far.
56'
Ghana increase the pressure on their opposition! Muntari's beautiful cross from the left hand side finds Gyans head, but his effort goes over the bar.
55'
What a great effort! Muntari has the ball at a distance of about 25 metres to the goal. His powerful left-footed shot looks really dangerous and just passes the left post.
52'
After Bedoya commits a foul Ghana get a free-kick and Atsu is sent to the right wing. From there he looks to get in front of the box and finishes from about 16 metres with a left-footed shot. But it goes off target.
49'
The first minutes after game resumes aren't really that spectacular. Ghana's trying to pressure the USA again, but like in the first half, the have no success in doing so.
46'
Klinsmann makes his second substitution and replaced Besler with Hertha BSC Berlin defender Brooks.
46'
Substitution (in) USA -> John Anthony Brooks
46'
Substitution (out) USA -> Matt Besler

Second Half begins

Halftime Summary:
Team USA had a dream start, but then didn't continue to play offensively! Klinsmann's team scored in the very first minute and subsequently focused on defending their lead and waiting for counter opportunities. Though Ghana took over control right after Dempsey's goal, they couldn't make something out of their great ball possession (62:38%). At the middle of the first half, the Yanks also lost their key striker Altidore due to a hamstring injury. In the following Ghana created some good chances but weren't able to convert, while the USA had some efforts in the last ten minutes. Who whill be able to score next?
45'
Half-Time
45'
Is this unsportsmanlike conduct? Muntari and Jones get entangled and while falling the former Schalke 04 midfielder's feet hit his opponent's neck. Though Jones has made similar bad moves in his career, it's hard to judge really since no one knows if this happens intentionally or not.
45'
After an irregular challenge Ghana have a free-kick from the left side and Bedoya's cross is really dangerous! Kwarasey does right in punching the ball over the bar, Team USA have a corner from the right side. The corner comes to nothing, but there are some other news: The referee adds five minutes of injury time!
42'
Again it's Jóhansson dashing over the right hand side and passes back to Bedoya. But his cross for Dempsey is intercepted, Ghana's defense looks quite vigilant right now.
39'
Jóhannsson tries to make a first impression by running down the right wing and looking for a way through. But he's quite unsuccessful and loses the ball to the defenders.
37'
More and more the USA are playing more offensively instead of camping inside their own half. This way the Black Stars' pressure decreases significantly.
34'
Klinsmann can ease himself, since Dempsey comes back on the pitch after the bleeding of his nose is stopped.
33'
Is this the next injury for Team USA? Boye unintentionally hits Dempsey's nose with his foot while both a trying to make a header.
32'
Again it's Gyan against Howard! The striker maintains possession at the top of the box and flicks the ball onto the lower right corner of the goal. But the American goalie reacts quickly and makes a great save!
30'
Mohammed Rabiu (Ghana) is shown a yellow card
Ouch, he should really be more careful! He rushes into Beckermann with full speed and the victim is lucky not be suffer an injury from this.
29'
That was close! Asamoah is fouled on his way from the left wing to the middle, but the ball comes to Atsu who's able to shoot because of the advantage rule. However, his attempt goes over the bar.
27'
The Black Stars continue to find a gap between the opposition's defenders. This time Opare crosses it from the right wing and into the box, but Besler can clear the ball for a corner kick, which comes to nothing.
25'
That looks painful, too! Jordan Ayew's challenge from behind against Beckerman is penalized with a free-kick. The ref could even book the Ghanaian, but he doesn't.
23'
Substitution (in) USA -> Aron Jóhannsson
23'
Substitution (out) USA -> Jozy Altidore
22'
No, that's it for Jozy! The striker is put on a barrow and carried off pitch. Jóhannsson will replace him in a jiffy.
20'
Oh, that doesn't look good! Altidore seems to have made a wrong step and injured his hamstring without an impact from another player. Let's see if he can come back.
18'
Altidore has a chance! But the striker who had a horrific season (scoring only one goal in 31 games) can't convert, his shot from about eight metres is blocked.
15'
This time Gyan is onside! But he can't reach the pass because Howard leaves his goal and clears the ball just in time.
13'
Team USA seems quite content with their lead, not even trying to be more dominant. Instead they concentrate on defending and wait for opportunities to counterattack.
10'
The Black Stars manage to relocate the game into the American half, but their final passes aren't good enough yet. Jordan Ayew tries to find Gyan in front of the box, but the striker is offside.
7'
Ghana are trying to gain control of the game and the do managed to keep the ball in their possession. But so far they aren't able to create a scoring chance.
4'
This time the Yanks aren't successful with their attack from the left hand side. Jones is trying to center the ball to the awaiting Bradley, but Ghana's defense can block the cross.
1'
Goooal for USA, 0:1 by Clint Dempsey
Wow, what a quick start for the United States, it takes them only 30 seconds to score the lead! Beasley passes the ball onto the left, where Jones immediately forwards it to Dempsey. The 31-year-old dribbles into the box and isn't properly attacked by the Black Stars' defensive line. This way the American forward can finish with a precise left-footed low shot into the rear corner of the goal.

Kick-Off
Both teams faced each other only two times in their history. At the 2006 WC in Germany, Ghana won 2-1 in the group stage. Four years later the Black Stars were victorious again as mentioned before.
On the other hand Team USA hasn't much well-known players, namely only Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Tim Howard (Everton FC), Jermaine Jones (Beşiktaş Istanbul) and Jozy Altidore (AFC Sunderland). In contrast, record player Landon Donovan wasn't nominated for the WC by Klinsmann. Maybe some Bundesliga fans also know the likes of former Mönchengladbach player Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), John Anthony Brooks (Berlin), Tomothy Chandler (Nuremberg, transfering to Frankfurt next season), youngster Julian Green (Bayern Munich) and Hoffenheim's Fabian Johnson, who will join Mönchengladbach in the next season.
The most famous players on Ghana's side would be Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah, the brothers André (Olympique de Marseille) and Jordan Ayew (FC Sochaux-Montbéliard), Kevin-Prince Boateng (FC Schalke 04), Michael Essien (AC Milan) and the Black Star's record goal scorer Asamoah Gyan (Al Ain FC). However, Boateng and Essien are sitting on the bench tonight, instead AC Milan's Sulley Muntary finds himself in the starting lineup.
While non-American football supporters might wonder what's to criticize about that statement, for most of the Americans it was just counterintuitive since have the highest ambitions is kind of a custom in US American sports. But for the rest of the world, it sounded just like a rather realistic estimation. Nevertheless, yesterday Klinsmann tried to calm down the critics by stating that he "booked [his] flight after the final."
In the past few days Jürgen Klinsmann not only received much criticism, but also caused a big shitstorm in the Internet. The former German striker and current team manager of the USA had stated: "We cannot win this World Cup, because we are not at that level yet. For us, we have to play the game of our lives seven times to win the tournament. Realistically, it is not possible.”
Ghana participated in the last two world cups and both times the Black Stars were able to proceed to the round of 16. In 2006, they lost 0-3 to Brazil, but in 2010's WC the managed to reach the next stage. After beating the USA 2-1 in overtime, they we're facing Uruguay in the quarter-finals and almost had won the game in the very last minute of the overtime. But first a highly unsportsmanlike handball by Luis Suárez on his own goal line (which was penalised with a red card) prevented them from scoring, then Asamoah Gyan missed the due penalty.
In this year the Stars and Stripes played six friendly matches and in almost every one of them the USA scored two goals. After beating South Korea (2-0), the American players weren't able to get their names on the score sheet against Ukraine (0-2). However, they stayed without a loss in the following four games against Mexico (2:2), Azerbaijan (2:0), Turkey (2:1) and Nigeria (2:1).
The African qualifing took only one round, but the CONCACAF qualifying consists of four stages. While the first two ones are fought out between the tiniest nations - mainly consisting of Carribean and Central American teams - the Yanks did join the competition in the third round. Winning their group with 13 points out of six games, the proceeded to the final round and again were the most outstanding team there, finishing first with 22 points out of ten games.
Ghana came first in their qualifying group, winning five out of six games. Subsequently they managed to beat Egypt 6-1 in the third qualifying round, so that their following 1-2 loss in Cairo didn't have any impact at all. In 2014, the Black Stars lost two out of three of their recent friendlies with 0-1 (against Montenegro and the Netherlands), but achieved a reassuring 4-0 win over South Korea.
Azad Derakhshani will provide the live commentary for this game.
