Fulltime Summary:
Well that was a pretty uninteresting match! Ecuador needed a win since Swiss had took the lead early on in the concurrent game, but la Tri didn't show any attempts of trying to do so. It almost looked like the didn't want to win at all! Instead, France had a walk-over from the beginning, having some control but not being convincing at all. They had only one chance worth mentioning in the first 35 minutes. Ecuador on the other hand could've tried to capitalize from the French's reluctance to be more dominant. But Rueda's team mostly sent long balls into the box and apart from that only played scure passes in their defense. They didn't take any risks, but rather seemed to be confident with the 0-0. Even after they had countered a great chance by Pogba with a dangerous header by Enner Valencia, they didn't keep up the pressure. The second half began with a red card for Antonio Valencia, which seemed overly hard. Of course, France now took over control to the fullest, while the Ecuadorians, who already didn't seem to believe in their success before, completely gave up. This way the second half stayed offly uneventful and rightfully ended with a 0-0, since both teams didn't contribute enough to this game.

Full-Time
90'
The referee adds four minutes of injury time, will we see a goal in stoppage time?
89'
Ecuador make their final player change, Noboa is replaced by Caicedo.
89'
Substitution (in) Ecuador -> Felipe Caicedo
89'
Substitution (out) Ecuador -> Christian Noboa
88'
That's Giroud's second evil misdoing that's been missed by the referee! This time he strikes his opponent with his ellbow, the Arsenal striker clearly should've been sent off by now.
87'
Rémy seems to be eager for a goal! He cuts inside from the right and shoots from about 14 metres distance. But Domínguez is able to make a save.
84'
Since Ecuador slowly are giving up their defensive tactics, France find more space for counterattacks! Giroud sends Benzema into the box, but his shot is saved by Domínguez.
83'
Frickson Erazo (Ecuador) is shown a yellow card
France have a free kick near the box, Erazo's challenge on Giroud is a little bit too hard. So the Ecuadorian is rightfully booked.
82'
Ibarra has the next scoring opportunity for la Tri! But his powerful shot from the edge of the box is parried away by Lloris.
82'
Immediately after his attempt, Arroyo is replaced by Achilier.
82'
Substitution (in) Ecuador -> Gabriel Achilier
82'
Substitution (out) Ecuador -> Michael Arroyo
81'
Ecuador manage to counterattack! Arroyo is sent onto the left channel of the box and tries to shoot, but it's blocked by Koscielny.
80'
The just substituted Rémy almost has an impact on the game! He dribbles through from the right and manages to retain the ball at the by-line. But his pass back into the field is blocked.
79'
Deschamps' number of substitutions is now depleted. He replaces Griezmann with Rémy.
79'
Substitution (in) France -> Loïc Rémy
79'
Substitution (out) France -> Antoine Griezmann
76'
What a great plan! No really, why hasn't anyone tried this before? Of course, that's pure sarcasm. Arroyo gets the ball at the halfway line and dashes forward all alone. He even gets through to the edge of the box, but unsurprisingly loses the ball there.
74'
Pogba almost scores the lead! After Sissoko sends in a brilliant cross from the right, coming from the left the Juventus midfielder's header just passes the right post.
72'
The ref really doesn't bring his A-game tonight, but he's not the first one. Giroud lashes out to his opponent, he could easily be sent off for this undisciplined behaviour.
71'
Swiss are now leading 3-0, so Ecuador would have to score at least two goals to stay in the tournament. Of course, no one really believes in this to happen.
69'
After Digne misses the ball and only hits Ibarra's shin, Arroyo tries to shoot the following free kick from the right wing directly onto the goal. But his effort goes over the ball.
67'
Deschamps substitutes a second striker onto the pitch, but of course Benzema will now act as winger while Giroud, who replaces Matuidi, will be centre forward.
67'
Substitution (in) France -> Olivier Giroud
67'
Substitution (out) France -> Blaise Matuidi
65'
The ref could as well blow the final whistle now, since Ecuador don't show the slightest effort, while France now do try to score without even needing it.
63'
Now Rueda also makes his first substitution: Ibarra comes off the bench and replaces Montero.
63'
Substitution (in) Ecuador -> Renato Ibarra
63'
Substitution (out) Ecuador -> Jefferson Montero
61'
Sakho, who suffered a thigh strain in the first half, is now replaced by Varane, despite the Real Madrid centre back having a stomach flu.
61'
Substitution (in) France -> Raphaël Varane
61'
Substitution (out) France -> Mamadou Sakho
58'
Benzema almost has a chance! The Real Madrid forward tries to shoot on the turn, but his attempt is blocked by Guagua. Then the Frenchman tries to find Pogba, but this time Noboa manages to block the ball.
56'
More and more, France are trying to get into the box and generate some danger, but for now they can't create a chance worth mentioning.
53'
At least the red card probably won't affect the outcome of this game, since Ecuador didn't play convincing before. France take over control of course. Digne can continue to play, by the way.
50'
Antonio Valencia (Ecuador) is sent off
That's a really poor decision! Digne tackles Antonio Valencia, but misses him. While the Manchester United midfielder tries to maintain the ball, he - at least it looks that way - unintentionally steps on Digne's leg. One could've penalised this with a yellow card, but sending off Valencia seems just too hard. It takes quite a long time until the ref makes a decision, because Digne needs medical attendance and is surrounded by many players of both teams. The culprit goes off the pitch without any reaction.
47'
France don't need much time to have their first attempt! Sagna crosses the ball into the box and finds Griezmann, but Domínguez saves it onto the bar!
46'
Play resumes without any player changes.
46'
Second Half begins

Halftime Summary:
So far this wasn't what everyone expected. Having the chance to proceed to the last sixteen, one would've thought that Ecuador would try everything possible to beat France, especially after Swiss scored the 1-0 and 2-0 in the concurrent game. But instead, la Tri limited themselves to defend and occasionally try to get into the box with long balls. At least Rueda's team managed to even the stats a little bit, having 44:55% possession and 4:5 shots (3:4 on target) at half-time. While the Ecuadorian's game plan didn't prove to be successfull, France also didn't bring their A-game. Of course this might've been due to Deschamps' team already being qualified for the next round, but still they left a lot of room for improvement. Maybe the second half will provide us with it.
45'
Half-Time
44'
The final minutes of the first half prove to be rather boring. The only thing worth mentioning is a long range effort from Antonio Valencia, which is blocked by Sakho.
42'
Why don't la Tri keep the pressure up after such a promising chance? They should be storming forward, but instead are playing the ball back to their goalie as if the had to kill time. That really makes no sense except they don't believe in winning or don't want to proceed at all.
41'
Ecuador almost take the lead! Arroyo can get a long diagonal ball under control on the left wing and lobs the ball onto the rear post. Enner Valencia almost converts with a lovely header from about three metres distance, but Lloris somehow can stop the ball just before it passes the goal line.
38'
That's a great effort from both of them! After a foul on Digne, l'Équipe tricolor have a free kick from the right. Griezmann sends in a cross for Pogba, whose header goes onto the top left corner of the goal. But Domínguez is able to push the ball over the bar.
35'
By the way, Swiss scored the 2-0 a few minutes ago, so Ecuador simply have to win or else head home after this match. It's not really comprehensible why they don't risk more and play more offensively.
33'
This is a really unspectacular stage of this match, neither of the teams are able to create a chance. Especially France are lacking creativity.
31'
Well the French don't really cover themselves in glory, right now. They're not only slightly giving away control of the game, but also don't present dangerous attacking attempts. Griezmann and Benzema try to get through on the right, but lose the ball quickly instead.
29'
Noboa is heavily bleeding after a duel for a header. The Ecuadorian gets a kind of shower cap that covers his bandage.
27'
Oh, this could've ended badly! Sagna sends in a beautiful cross, looking to find Benzema. The striker misses the ball, but so does Domínguez! Le Bleus can't react fast enough to capitalize from this.
24'
More and more, Ecuador keep the ball for a longer time, but they just can't find a way to get forward without losing it.
22'
Enner Valencia manages to get a long ball under control, thereby having a shooting opportunity at the right channel of the box. But he's pestered by Sakho and thus shoots over the bar.
19'
La Tri have some difficulties in playmaking because the French players immediately attack the player who's currently handling the ball. This way Rueda's team doesn't find a way to create chances at all.
17'
Sakho and Enner Valencia collide with each other and subconsequently need medical attendance. After some time, both players can rejoin the match.
15'
That's a good effort! Sissoko finishes from about 17 metres with his left foot and his shot goes onto the bottom right corner, but Domínguez is able to make a save.
13'
L'equipe Tricolor manage to retain possession and Ecuador don't really attempt to change this. The probably are are waiting to counterattack.
11'
Sissoko and Griezmann can maintain the ball with some luck though having some difficulties in controlling it. Finally, the San Sebastian winger takes a shot from about 20 metres, but goes wide of the right post.
8'
Sakho is really lucky here! The Liverpool defender hits Minda with his ellbow while trying to win a header. The referee doesn't see this, otherwise Sakho could already be sent off.
7'
Koscielny lacks concentration! Walter Ayoví plays a very long ball onto the left wing and actually finds Montero there, since the French defender doesn't try to intercept. Montero can't break through from there, though, he eventually loses the ball.
5'
So far the favored French are controling the ball quite easily, making it hard for Ecuador to gain some confidence.
3'
Both teams are feeling out their opposition, with neither one of them taking control in the beginning,

Kick-Off
These two nations faced each other only once in their history. In 2008, France beat Ecuador in a friendly with 2-0.
Ecuador team mnanager Reinaldo Rueda only made one player change: Michael Arroyo will play instead of Caicedo. Besides, Juan paredes, Jefferson Montero, Enner and Antonio Valencia already were booked once and would be banned for the next round, if they proceed and receive another one today.
Ecuador goal scorer Enner Valencia had to face quite similar privations at earlier stages of hies carrer, like milking cows to affort a pair of football boots. But there were also other difficulties for him: "I was forced to sleep at the Capwell Stadium (Emelec's stadium in the city of Guayaquil) I had often to go without eating because I did not have any money. It was just my love of football that kept me going."
Deschamps underlined that Valbuena didn't take the usual career path of an professional football player: "When players have not come through youth academies and experienced life in lower league football and then have the opportunity to get their foot on the ladder of professional football they are more willing and more determined than others. I know him well, he loves football and when he was not playing so well he resorted to working harder so he could get back to his previous level. He has been rewarded today, he has grown in maturity whereas before some things he was doing were superfluous."
Putting Giroud on the bench and replacing him with Griezmann wasn't so surprising since France already did so in their first match, enabling Benzema to play as centre forward instead being a winger. But taking the experienced Evra and the flourishing Valbuena off was quite unexpected, especially after Deschamps had heavily praised his former Marseille player after the second match.
In comparison to their last game on Friday and letting aside that Pogba will play instead of the banned Cabaye, Deschamps made four additional changes in his starting lineup: Mathieu Debuchy, Patrice Evra, Olivier Giroud and Matthieu Valbuena will be sitting on the bench, while Lucas Digne, Laurent Koscielny, Antoine Griezmann and Morgan Schneiderlin will start in their place.
Before the tournament started, most people only knew Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia, but now his namesake is making the headlines. The CF Pachuca forward, who can also play as midfielder, is already rumoured to be targeted by several European clubs such as Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham and Frankfurt.
Furthermore, the Ecuadorian players continued to praise their opposition's strength. Walter Ayoví said that the French are "good at creating space but we hope to be able to turn all that around." Top scorer Enner Valencia added: ""They're going to be very difficult opponents, we know France's strengths but we're going to have to take care if we want to hurt them."
While Ecuador probably will need to gain one or three points from this game, they don't seem to plan on playing offensively, as defender Frickson Erazo stated: "The way to read it is that we're going to have a lot of work in defence."
Consequently, both Sissoko and Pogba find themselves being in the starting lineup, though the main reason would be Yohan Cabaye's ban due to being already booked twice in this tournament. Mamadou Sakho was also doubtful for today, but the Liverpool defender did recover in time from the thigh injury he had suffered against the Swiss.
Letting Sissoko start proved to be the right choice in the end, since the Newcastle midfielder did a great job and even scored a goal. But Deschamps still didn't forget to praise Pogba's abilities: "Paul has enormous potential, I have confidence in him. After that, though, there is the reality of the highest level, you have to dig deep. He saw that yesterday, and he made an impact when he came on (in the 63rd minute and set up Karim Benzema for the fourth goal)."
After Paul Pogba wasn't part of the starting eleven in the 5-2 win against Switzerland, the media suspected this being a kind of punishment by team manager Didier Deschamps after Pogba nearly got a red card in the first match against Honduras. But the 1998 WC winner denied such implications and mentioned tactical reasons instead: "It was because I preferred to choose Sissoko, who is an excellent player. He is not the same type of player, he has different qualities."
Ecuador are second in group E for now, but - like the Nati - only have three points. So La Tri are doomed to aim for a win, because if the Swiss should beat Honduras, the Ecuadorians would be eliminated. Of course any relevant events of the concurrent game will be mentioned in this live commentary.
Hypothetically, France could still be eliminated despite of having six points, but therefore the not only would have to lose this match but also, Switzerland would have to win and make up their eight goal deficit regarding France's goal difference. So, to stay in the real world, Le Bleus most probably will proceed to the the next round.
Your commentator for this match will be Azad Derakhshani.
Welcome to tonight's match between Ecuador and France!
