Endgame Summary:
Argentina progresses to the knockout stage with the maximum of nine points, but still has to sort out a lot before the next round. The South Americans overall showed improved play, but had to rely heavily on their superstar striker again, who next to Di María was the bright spot in an otherwise very common team. Nonetheless the first step is made for the Albiceleste and that's all that counts for now, but it remains to be seen whether they can really challenge more talented teams. Nigeria advances as well with the support of Bosnia, who beat Iran 3-1 in their first ever World Cup victory. Argentina and Nigeria now await their opponent from group E that kicks off in two hours.

It's again the Messi show for Argentina as the superstar struck twice, one very early and one very late in the half. Although the South Americans overall show improved play today, they once again lacked pace and creativity throughout. 1'
Kick-Off
It's all set and the teams are coming out led by Italy's Rizzoli, who is in charge of today's encounter.
Can the Super Eagles advance or even overtake the spot from Argentina or will the Albiceleste build some confidence and momentum going into the knockout stage? The next two hours will show.
Nigeria meanwhile isn't afraid of Messi and wants to focus on Argentina as team rather than the individual. Coach Stephen Keshi said the spirit of the team was good and he had no doubt they'll reach the last 16. The Africans can build on their firm defense as they are the only team that has yet to concede a single goal.
The full lineups can be found here.
Both sides remain unchanged following their respective 1-0 victories against Iran and Bosnia. So Sabella, although already qualified, chooses to field his best team to secure their spot and avoid a potential matchup with France in the next round. The South Americans might also hope to finally underline their credentials as potential champions with an improved performance against Nigeria.
A draw is an appealing result for both teams as Sabella's side would secure the top spot in the group and Nigeria advance to the last 16 as well. If Keshi and his Super Eagles lose they are going to need help from eliminated Bosnia to at least secure the draw against Iran while a win would send the Africans through in front of Argentina. There is even a remote chance that a lot will decide this group and we'll get back to these contingencies if necessary.
The South Americans were supposed to be one of the favorites going into the tournament, but with rather unconvincing group play the Albiceleste couldn't live up to the hype. They at least got their wins thanks two superb and game-winning goals by Messi, who otherwise underperformed as well and voiced criticism about their tactical approach. One bright moment by the superstar might be enough in group stage, but Argentina will surely have to step up their game to advance deep into the knockout stage.
