Hummels to miss USA, Boateng called up for Gibraltar

Injured Mats Hummels withdrew Sunday from Germany's squad for a friendly against the United States on Wednesday and a Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar next Saturday.

The Borussia Dortmund captain has been labouring with a hip injury, which the centre-back was carrying in the 3-1 defeat to Wolfsburg in last month's German Cup final.

Hummels will miss Wednesday's date against Jurgen Klinsmann's Stars and Stripes in Cologne with the Americans chasing another major scalp having shocked the Netherlands 4-3 last Friday in Amsterdam.

Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng has been called up by Germany coach Joachim Loew to join the world champions' squad on Wednesday as cover for Hummels.

He will only feature in Germany's qualifier against Gibraltar in Faro, Portugal next Saturday with the Germans second by a point in the table behind group leaders Poland.
