Italy without Verratti for Croatia trip

Italy must do without Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti for their Euro 2016 qualifier in Croatia on Friday, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Thursday.

Verratti left the Azzurri training base at Coverciano, Florence on Thursday morning after suffering an injury to his left calf.

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, who took a knock in training, will not feature against Croatia either, while coach Antonio Conte is also missing Juventus defenders Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini as well as Sassuolo forward Simone Zaza.

Italy are currently second in Group H halfway through the qualifying campaign, two points behind leaders Croatia before Friday's game in Split.

Conte's side are also due to play Portugal in a friendly in Geneva next Tuesday, June 16.
