Germany's Bernd Storck will take over as Hungary coach from Pal Dardai who has cut short his contract to exclusively work for Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin, the Hungarian football association said Monday.

Dardai, coach of Hungary since September after the sacking of Attila Pinter, signed a long-term contract with Hertha in May.

As part of the deal, the 39-year-old was meant to stay on with Hungary until the end of Euro 2016 qualifying in November.

But over the weekend the Berlin club announced it wanted Dardai to focus only on his club role.

As a result, the Hungary's football association (MLSZ) said it had decided to appoint Storck, 52, who begins his new role on Tuesday.

The ex-Kazakstan coach and former sport director of MLSZ won plaudits after steering Hungary to the last 16 round at the FIFA U20 World Cup in June.

The MLSZ said it had ruled out legal action against Hertha and thanked the Berlin club for releasing Dardai to help out Hungary "during a difficult period".

Hungary, ranked 31st in the world, compared to 54th when Dardai took over, were undefeated during his five competitive games in charge.

Third in its Euro 2016 qualifying group, the team has a chance of qualifying for its first international tournament since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

The first of the team's remaining four qualifiers is in September at home to Romania.
