Republic pick Versailles as Euro 2016 base

Republic of Ireland chiefs on Friday revealed they have selected Versailles as their base camp for Euro 2016 in France.

Republic manager Martin O'Neill and his assistant Roy Keane, along with Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney, visited the venue, which is close to Paris, after last weekend's draw and decided it was ideal for their needs.

"The facilities and accommodation in Versailles are second-to-none, and will cater for every need of the team, management and backroom staff," Delaney said.

"I visited the area with Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane, and both are extremely impressed and looking forward to being based there."

O'Neill, Keane and their players will stay at the UEFA-approved Trianon Palace and train at the municipal football facility, which is home to AFC Versailles.

The Republic have been drawn in Group E along with Sweden, Belgium and Italy.

They open their group fixtures with a clash against Sweden at the Stade de France in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis before meeting Belgium in Bordeaux and Italy in Lille.
