Belgium coach Marc Wilmots insisted Wednesday that he wanted a friendly game against Portugal to go-ahead in Brussels as planned to show he has "no fear" of terrorism.

The match, to be played on March 29, was switched from the Belgian capital to Leiria in Portugal after Tuesday's attacks at Brussels airport and a city metro station that killed 31 people and left 270 injured.

"I wanted to play in Brussels, at home, because I am against fear. We have to continue to live our lives. But I respect the decisions taken by the authorities," said Wilmots.

"Me, I wanted to play here to show them (the terrorists) that even if the terrible events, which shook the country, that life goes on for the majority of people.

"That we are not scared and we will not change the way we conduct our lives. This is my opinion."

Wilmots thanked the Portuguese football federation for co-operating with the switch of fixture, a key warm-up game for the Euro 2016 championship to be played in France in June and July.

Both countries have qualified for the month-long tournament.

"We are very happy to play," added the coach.

"There remained, however, to consult the players. I did not want to impose anything, either collectively or individually. I gave them two hours of reflection and after that, none of them showed any reservations or reluctance.

"They all wanted to play on Tuesday."
