Casillas breaks Maldini appearance record

Iker Casillas set a new record when featuring for Porto in their Champions League last 16, second leg against Juventus on Tuesday as he made his 175th appearance in European competition.

Casillas, formerly of Real Madrid, started for Porto in Turin to go past the mark previously held by AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini, who made 174 appearances in continental competition and won five European Cups.

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez, a four-time Champions League winner, is next on the list on 173.

Casillas, 35, who made 157 appearances for Real Madrid in UEFA competition and won the Champions League three times before leaving for Porto in 2015, will have to wait until next season to add to his tally.

Porto, who lost the first leg 2-0 at home, lost 3-0 on aggregate after a 1-0 defeat away to the Italian champions.
