Argentine playmaker Marcos Flores has signed a one-season deal with the Newcastle Jets, the A-League club said on Monday.

The former Johnny Warren Medal winner is recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which he injured playing for the Central Coast Mariners last season.

Flores, 28, was a big success in his first stint in Australia with Adelaide United in the 2010-11 season, where he worked alongside current Jets head coach Phil Stubbins.

He was named the A-League's best player following that stellar campaign.

Flores has made a total of 67 appearances in the A-League, scoring 16 goals.

"The Jets have shown faith in me and I'm really excited to finish my recovery so I can repay them on the pitch," Flores said.

Stubbins said that Flores' creativity and skill on the ball would provide the Jets with a valuable weapon in the attacking part of the pitch.

"Reaching this agreement with Marcos is a big coup for the club because I think he could be a real joker in the pack for us this coming campaign," Stubbins said.
