Football: Fans give emotional farewell to Ono

Japanese star Shinji Ono was given an emotional farewell as Western Sydney Wanderers drew 1-1 with Brisbane Roar in Australia's A-League on Saturday.

It was 34-year-old Ono's last home game of the regular A-League season before the former international playmaker returns to Japan to join Consadole Sapporo.

The Wanderers staged a tribute to the respected Japanese player -- capped over 50 times -- with fireworks in the 21st minute and the 15,000-plus crowd unleashing confetti into the air and sporting Ono masks in honour of his number 21 playing shirt.

The draw ensured the race for the second spot on the A-League table will go down to the final round next week with the Wanderers to battle it out with Central Coast for the runners-up position and with it missing the opening week of the play-offs.

Liam Miller put the Roar in front in the opening half with striker Tomi Juric levelling in the second half.
