Champions Sydney FC pull five points clear in A-League

Brazilian striker Bobo scored the winner to push champions Sydney FC five points clear in Australia's A-League after a 1-0 win over Adelaide United at the weekend.

Bobo finished clinically just before half-time to end Adelaide's run of back-to-back league wins.

Bobo also scored the crucial goal in Adelaide's defeat at the hands of Sydney in the FFA Cup final last month.

A late Manny Muscat goal gave Melbourne City a 2-1 away win over Newcastle Jets.

Muscat found the net with a thunderous strike four minutes from time after the second-placed Jets had dominated the contest.

The win lifted third-placed City to 16 points, one point behind the Jets.

The improving Central Coast Mariners downed Perth Glory 1-0 on Sunday, with substitute Blake Powell getting the winner in the 78th minute.

The win pushed Paul Okon's Mariners to fourth spot just ahead of Adelaide United.

Melbourne Victory posted their second win of the season, overcoming a two-goal half-time deficit to beat Wellington Phoenix 3-2 in New Zealand on Sunday.

The Victory trailed 0-2 at half-time after two Andrija Kaludjerovic headers but battled back to claim their second win of the season.

Besart Berisha's 54th-minute goal and an own goal off Goran Paracki set up a tense final half-hour leading up to James Troisi's 86th minute winner.

The win lifted Melbourne up to sixth spot.

Brisbane Roar claimed a 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, with former Socceroo defender Ivan Franjic marking his return to the Roar with a second-half strike to complement Italian marquee Massimo Maccarone's opener.

It was Roar's second win and lifted John Aloisi's struggling side to eighth in the league standings -- pushing the Wanderers to ninth.
