Sierra Leone axe crisis-hit president

Sierra Leone's Football Association president Isha Johansen was replaced Thursday by his deputy Brima Mazola Kamara after years of internal conflict among football administrators, it was announced.

Sierra Leone's anti-graft agency raided the organisation's offices this week after Johansen refused to leave to face a probe into alleged corruption over misuse of donor and government funds.

Both Johansen and secretary general Chris Kamara have been indicted for corruption but they deny any wrongdoing.

The SLFA has been rocked by crisis after crisis linked to match fixing allegations, corruption and poor leadership.

Fifteen Sierra Leonean players and officials were suspended in July 2014 over suspect matches including a 2010 World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

"We will send a comprehensive report to FIFA on Monday explaining the current status of football administration in the country," Brima Mazola Kamara told AFP via telephone in Freetown.

"We have to bring sanity into the game again."

Mazola Kamara added that he hoped to restart the Sierra Leone national league which has been mothballed for four years.
