Hearts beat Rangers in battle of fallen giants

Hearts began their bid to make an immediate return to the Scottish Premiership with a 2-1 win away to Rangers on Sunday as they wrapped up the opening weekend of the Championship season.

But it took an injury-time winner from pre-season signing Osman Sow to seal victory for the visitors at Ibrox.

Former Rangers defender Danny Wilson headed Hearts in front from a 52nd minute corner.

But midfielder Nicky Low equalised for the hosts near the end of the regulation 90 minutes.

However, there was still time for Hearts to take the ball up the other end of the field where Sweden striker Sow shot past Rangers keeper Cammy Bell.

Edinburgh side Hearts were relegated from Scotland's top flight last term following an acrimonious season that almost saw the club go bankrupt.

Glasgow giants Rangers, the 54-times champions of Scotland, were kicked into the country's fourth and bottom tier of professional football in 2012 after entering administration.

But they have since been working their way back towards the summit and last season were crowned champions of third-tier League One.
