Celtic sign AEK Athens keeper Barkas

Scottish champions Celtic signed Greek goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens on Thursday.

Barkas agreed a four-year contract with Neil Lennon's side and immediately set his sights on helping the Glasgow club win a 10th successive Scottish title.

The 26-year-old is expected to be Celtic's first choice keeper after Fraser Forster's return to Southampton at the end of his loan and the departure of Craig Gordon.

Celtic start their bid for another title against Hamilton on Sunday and Barkas told Celtic TV: "It's a dream to come to one of the biggest teams in Europe.

"Winning medals and trophies is why I came here. I want to win 10 in-a-row, and I want to help us get into the Champions League."

Barkas, who has been capped 10 times by Greece, is reported to have cost Celtic £4.5 million ($5.8 million).

"The manager spoke to me about the club, the pressure here and that he wants us to be champions again," Barkas said.

"That's one of the reasons I came here."
