Kris Commons grabbed a double as 10-man Celtic cruised to their 10th win in a row after seeing off Motherwell 3-0 at Parkhead on Saturday.

Celtic took the lead with just over four minutes on the clock as Commons stroked home the opener.

Both sides had chances before Anthony Stokes earned Celtic a 39th minute penalty which Commons despatched for his 19th of the season.

Motherwell's James McFadden missed a chance to pull one back for his side just after the break when he failed to beat Fraser Forster from six yards out before former Celtic captain Stephen McManus turned the ball past his own keeper in the 68th minute to make it 3-0.

The only disappointment for Celtic, who kept their eighth clean sheet in a row in the league for the first time since 1986, came ten minutes from time when Stokes was shown a straight red for a tackle from behind on Keith Lasley.

The win means Celtic move 13 points clear of Aberdeen, who lost 1-0 at home to Inverness, with two games in hand as they extend their unbeaten start to the season to 22 matches.

Motherwell had come into the match looking to make it seven wins in a row -- a feat they hadn't achieved since 1933 in the top flight.

However, it only took until the fifth minute for Celtic to grab the lead with a goal created and finished by Commons.

The Scottish midfielder played a defence splitting pass to Stokes who raced into the box one-on-one with Gunnar Neilsen.

The keeper saved his shot but he could only push it away as far as Commons who slammed home the rebound into the net.

Motherwell pushed forward looking for a way back into the match but John Sutton failed to apply the finishing touch at the back post after Shaun Hutchinson had headed down a McFadden free-kick.

Stokes and Forrest both saw shots fizz narrowly wide before Motherwell came close as Forster just got his fingertips to Lionel Ainsworth's fierce strike to turn it round the post.

The game looked evenly poised heading towards the break before Celtic extended their lead through a 39th minute penalty.

Stokes earned his side a spot-kick when he was clipped by Neilsen after rounding the keeper in the box and Commons stepped up to expertly despatch the penalty for his second of the match.

McFadden then missed a golden chance to grab his side's first goal at Celtic Park since April 2010 when the ball broke to him six yards out after being fed by Sutton but the forward's tame effort was stopped by the legs of Forster.

Stokes nearly extended his sides lead on the hour mark when his bending 20-yard shot grazed the crossbar on its way out.

Celtic did get a third in the 68th minute when McManus stuck out a foot to try and block a fierce strike from Forrest but unfortunately diverted it past his own keeper.

Celtic were reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute when Stokes was shown a straight red for a late challenge on Keith Lasley.

Elsewhere, Hibernian lost 3-2 to St Mirren, Partick Thistle drew 1-1 with Kilmarnock and Hearts came back from 3-1 down to grab a point in a 3-3 draw following two late goals against St Johnstone.
