Dembele's late strike gives Lyon victory

Moussa Dembele scored in the 85th minute to give Lyon a 3-2 win away to 10-man Bordeaux on Friday night that strengthened their grip on third in French Ligue 1.

The visitors took the lead with a 14th-minute goal by Memphis Depay. Jimmy Briand and Nicolas de Preville responded with goals four minutes apart to give the home team a half-time lead.

Maxwell Cornet levelled after 63 minutes. Six minutes later Bordeaux defender Vukasin Jovanovic was shown a straight red card for insulting one of the officials.

Former Celtic striker Dembele came on in the 69th minute, had a goal disallowed for offside five minutes later, but won the game with five minutes to play, pouncing as the ball ricocheted round the Bordeaux area and drilling it home.

Lyon occupy the third and last Champions League qualifying place and are three points behind second-place Lille and six ahead of Saint-Etienne. Those teams both play on Sunday.
