Struggling Cadiz appoint Pellegrino in survival bid

Cadiz appointed Mauricio Pellegrino as coach on Wednesday in the hope he can save them from relegation in La Liga.

The struggling Andalusians, 18th, sacked his predecessor Sergio Gonzalez last week after a run of 17 league matches without victory.

"Cadiz and Pellegrino have reached a deal for the coach to take over until the end of the season," said the club in a statement.

Pellegrino, 52, left his previous club Universidad de Chile in December and the Argentine has previously coached Southampton in the Premier League and Valencia, Leganes and Alaves in the Spanish top flight.
