Seagulls flying high as Hemed downs Hull

Brighton extended their flying start to the Championship campaign with a 1-0 win over Hull that moved them four points clear at the top on Saturday.

Chris Hughton's side have now won five and drawn one of their six second tier matches after Tomer Hemed bagged the only goal at the Amex Stadium.

Hull, outplayed in the first half, enjoyed more possession after the interval but struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities before a crowd of 24,815.

Brighton dedicated their match to victims of the Shoreham Airshow disaster, which claimed the lives of 11 people including their groundsman Matt Grimstone and his Worthing United team-mate Jacob Schildt.

There was a minute's applause before the game and Albion then lifted the mood with Israel international striker Hemed netting after five minutes.

Hemed fired home his fourth goal of the season from close range after Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor parried a shot from Dale Stephens.

Cardiff climbed to second place after a 2-0 win over Huddersfield, with Anthony Pilkington and Joe Mason goals extending their unbeaten run to six matches.

Second-half goals from former England internationals Stewart Downing and David Nugent lifted Middlesbrough into third position with a 2-0 win over Milton Keynes Dons.

Fourth placed Birmingham are also enjoying an impressive start as Clayton Donaldson's first-half hat-trick inspired a 4-2 win over Bristol City.

Donaldson found the back of the net in the 10th, 20th and 41st minutes, with Jonathan Kodjia scoring twice for the Robins, before Jonathan Grounds's late effort sealed it for Birmingham.

Derby manager Paul Clement, who served as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant at Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea, finally earned his first win of the season with a 2-1 success at Preston, courtesy of Chris Martin's first-half brace.

Goals from Liam Feeney and Zach Clough put Bolton on course for a 2-1 win over Wolves, although Benik Afobe's penalty for the visitors ensured it was a tense finish at the Macron Stadium.

Burnley cruised past Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at Turf Moor.

Matty Taylor and Andre Gray scored late goals for Burnley after David Jones's early opener for the hosts had been cancelled out by Atdhe Nuhiu.

Elsewhere, Leeds drew 1-1 with Brentford and Charlton were held to a 1-1 draw by Rotherham.

Nottingham Forest came from a goal down to beat 10-man QPR 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Charlie Austin put QPR ahead but after goalkeeper Rob Green saw red, Henri Lansbury and Nelson Oliveira won it for Dougie Freedman's men.
