Tony Mowbray's reign as Sunderland manager started in style as his new side secured a 3-0 win over Rotherham in the Championship on Wednesday.

Former Middlesbrough and Blackburn manager Mowbray, only announced as Alex Neil's replacement at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday, saw Scotland international Ross Stewart score twice after half-time.

Stewart's fourth goal of the season gave the hosts a 52nd-minute lead as they looked to recover from Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Norwich, and he was on target 13 minutes later, with Jack Clarke completing the scoring 20 minutes from time.

Neil, by contrast, needed a late equaliser from substitute Tyrese Campbell to prevent his first game as Stoke manager ending in defeat as his new team drew 1-1 with Swansea.

Campbell scored in stoppage time to cancel out Joel Piroe's sixth-minute opener.

Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo scored after coming off the bench for the third successive game to complete a 2-0 victory over struggling Huddersfield.

Nahki Wells put City ahead against his former club 10 minutes before the break, and Semenyo's goal in the 80th minute put the result beyond doubt.

Emil Riis came off the bench to give Preston a much-needed 1-0 win at Coventry, with his 73rd-minute goal the difference between the teams.

Chile international Ben Brereton Diaz scored in the 16th minute to give Blackburn a 1-0 win at Blackpool that ended a run of three straight league defeats.
