Robben to miss Dutch friendlies against France, England

Dutch winger Arjen Robben will miss international friendlies against France on March 25 and England four days later because of a thigh injury, the Netherlands football federation announced Friday.

"It's naturally a big disappointment," Robben said. "I would have liked to join up with my teammates in Noordwdjik (the national training centre) at a time when we're starting to build towards the 2018 World Cup."

The Bayern Munich player, who missed his Bundesliga side's Champions League victory over Juventus on Wednesday, is due to resume training soon, according to club doctors.

Robben will also miss Bayern's match against Cologne on Saturday and likely be out for around two weeks before taking up group training sessions.

The Netherlands missed out on qualifying for the European Championships to be hosted by France in June and July.

France have been drawn in Group A alongside Albania, Romania and Switzerland, while England are in Group B with Russia, Wales and Slovakia.
