Former Italy defender Fabio Grosso has taken over as Sassuolo coach, the relegated Serie A side said on Monday.

Grosso, 46, had been out of work since November after leaving Lyon following a tumultuous tenure at the French club.

"U.S. Sassuolo Calcio announces that Mr. Fabio Grosso is the new manager of the first team," the club said.

"We wish him the most sincere welcome and best of luck from the whole black and green club," they added.

Before moving to Lyon, Grosso led Frosinone to promotion from Serie B in 2023.

Sassuolo finished 19th in Serie A last season having spent 11 years in the top-flight.
