Endgame Summary:
It will end up a bitter defeat for the Chelsea side. As far as the Premier League table is concerned, Chelsea is one point behind Arsenal and ahead of Tottenham, they would have loved to gather three points but the home team had something to say against that. Liverpool has seen their Europa League chances basically wiped out thanks to the Tottenham win but they should be proud of the resiliency they showed against a great Chelsea team. The game was decided in the second half, as we saw three different scorers and a game decided in the last minute. For the Liverpool side, the substitution of Sturridge brought life into the club and he was responsible for both scores. Suarez showed his skill and why he's such a dangerous striker. Eden Hazard was the man of the match for Chelsea and Petr Čech did well in goal and will be disappointed to see the win slip away from them but it is a reminder that no game is over until the final whistle blows. What an enjoyable game this was, living up to its billing. Until next time!

And the game is over! What a second half!

Goooal for Liverpool FC, 2:2 by Luis Suárez
Unbelievable for the home side!!! After the referees allow the game to play for almost another whole minute, Sturridge rips a ball into the middle with his left foot from the right side and finds the head of Luis Suárez who is more than capable of putting the ball into the goal. Petr Čech does happen to get a hand on it but he cannot manage to deflect the shot away as it brushes against the left side of the inner netting.
90'
Once again it's Luis Suárez with the shot, once again Petr Čech sees it the whole way and keeps Chelsea's lead secure.
90'
With little more than a minute left to play, this will be the last effort for Liverpool. The fans are cheering them on to get this game locked up.
90'
Henderson could have tied it there. After Suarez gets away from two players, he finds Henderson who gets his left foot on the ball but can't really gather himself to place it in a dangerous area. The clock keeps ticking and that's good for Chelsea.
90'
Just not enough from the build up as Shelvey's shot after a quick play from corner sails over the goal harmlessly.
90'
Substitution (in) Chelsea FC -> Frank Lampard
90'
Livepool still have time and Shelvey wins a corner for his team.
90'
Substitution (out) Chelsea FC -> Mata
90'
There is still plenty of time for the Liverpool players because of six added minutes. It seems a bit long but is the official's decision.
88'
Another missed opportunity for Liverpool as Jamie Carragher's flank pass flies into the box but doesn't find any of his teamates in dangerous positions. The Reds were really impressive today in the second half but it doesn't seem they will come aawy with anything but a moral victory for playing well against such an opponent like Chelsea.
85'
Shelvey should have tied the game up! The shot comes from the upper left corner of the box and he tries for the near post. The low spinning shot just whisks by the target.
84'
Time is running out for the home team, if they hope to get anything from this game then they need to make something happen quickly!
83'
Substitution (in) Chelsea FC -> Victor Moses
83'
Substitution (out) Chelsea FC -> Oscar
82'
Jonjo Shelvey (Liverpool FC) is shown a yellow card
Shelvey gets yellow for a swipe at Oscar's heels. He really deserves it as the young brazilian is struggling to walk off the field. He looks to be in actual pain and will end his rather successful day on a sour note.
80'
Chelsea looks to protect their lead by becoming a bit more defensive. After a solid outing from Hazard he sees his day come to a close and, accordingly, the Blues are certainly allowing their defense to dictate the last ten minutes as they try to keep their opponents at bay.
80'
Substitution (in) Liverpool FC -> Jonjo Shelvey
80'
Substitution (out) Liverpool FC -> Stewart Downing
78'
Substitution (in) Chelsea FC -> Yossi Benayoun
78'
Substitution (out) Chelsea FC -> Eden Hazard
77'
Downing had a decent look at goal but just couldn't get his foot behind anything that could have been dangerous for Chelsea. He could have played Daniel Sturridge in who was also in the area waiting.
74'
What a derby of a game! Both teams are fighting for control and shots on goal. The most recent one comes from LuiS Suárez but he rips it right into the chest of the Chelsea goalkeeper.
72'
Chelsea and Liverpool are floating the ball back and forth across the pitch. After two corners that come to nothing the Blues turn the ball over to their opponents.
70'
Liverpool have yet another opportunity snuffed out by Chelsea. Gerrad drives the ball down the field and crosses a ball to Sturridge, who if he had received it would have been all alone in the box, but Petr Čech dives onto the ground front of the cross.
69'
Saurez did well with the effort but it sails left of the goal. The low driving shot was not a poor effort but Saurez is understandable angry.
68'
Once again is Carragher frustrated with the officials. He is brought down right in front of Chelsea's penalty box and he wanted a penalty shot for it. Suarez prepares from the free kick right at the edge of the box.
64'
Jamie Carragher (Liverpool FC) is shown a yellow card
Jamie Carragher sees yellow after kicking his former teammate Fernando Torres unncessarily. It's about the most action Torres has seen all day, as Liverpool have bottled him up well.
62'
Liverpool have certainly not changed their approach even after conceding this second goal. They are pushing forwards well and continue to look like a team very capable of getting yet another equalizer.
60'
Great defense for José Enrique as he prevents a corner for the Chelsea side. He forces the Blues into a difficult posession with a deep throw in and Liverpool eventually gets control back .
57'
Goooal for Chelsea FC, 1:2 by Eden Hazard
Calmly done for Eden Hazard from the penalty area. The winger places the ball into the left corner and there's nothing for Pepe Reina to do but watch as he dives the other way. Now Chelsea are back in front but it's rather frustrating for the home boys since they had just begun to assert themselves into the game. It will be nice to see how they respond.
55'
And a handball has been called for the Chelsea team in the box! Here comes a penalty shot for the Blues after Luis Saurez prevents Torres's attempt at a header towards goal. It was the right call but the referee is hearing it from the fans.
54'
Lucas Leiva (Liverpool FC) is shown a yellow card
52'
Goooal for Liverpool FC, 1:1 by Daniel Sturridge
This is a fairytale for the ex-Chelsea player Daniel Sturridge who has just equalized the game. Well played by Stewart downing who flips the ball backwards with his calf towards Luis Suárez. The striker lifts a looping pass over the Chelsea defense onto Sturridge's foot who can slide it by a diving Petr Čech and into the left corner of the goal.Liverpool are showing their skills now.
51'
Liverpool's first corner sees a Daniel Agger header towards but he hears the whistle for a bit of pushing in the box. It was justly seen by the referee.
49'
Torres grabs a ball at the upper right corner of the box and sends a pass into the middle that rewards Chelsea a corner. Nothing comes from it but Torres does get a second attempt on goal. Both teams seem to be awakein this second half and it has shown!
47'
What a start for Liverpool! Daniel Sturridge is just brought on and drives the ball through the Liverpool defense. He leaves the ball for his teammate making the run but Petr Čech can make the save. The second effort for him lits off the right post and away from goal. Clearly he wants to prove what his old team has given up.

Halftime Summary:

The beauty of football is how quickly a game can change! After an excellent start from the Reds, Chelsea began to assert themselves in the match. It didn't take long for Oscar to make Liverpool pay. The home team need to return to their early game form if they hope to make something positive out of the competition. On the Chelsea side, Eden Hazard has been hugely effective and dictated the pace from the wing. Perhaps the only bright spot for the Liverpool side was the play of Luis Suárez who had a couple of decent looks towards goal but nothing that made keeper Čech earn his stay. It will be interesting to see what kind of changes the losing team will make after the half. We'll be back for the second half in just a minute!
45'
We'll go to break with Chelsea leading 0:1 against Liverpool!
45'
End of first half
45'
Just one minute of extra time.
45'
Fernando Torres has been very quiet in his return to Anfield. The striker is in a bit of a goal drought and it continues to this point in the competition.
42'
Steven Gerrard with a poor delivery and Chelsea is on the move again. The passes just aren't precise enough for Liverpool at this phase of the game.
40'
Pepe Reina is trying to wake his team up after Mata's run into the middle almost becomes dangerous. The keeper is clever enough to grab lobbed pass before Mata can get there.
38'
Fernando Torres (Chelsea FC) is shown a yellow card
A deserving yellow card for Torres as he roughly comes in for the challenge against Jamie Carragher and elbows him in the face.
37'
Liverpool seem disrupted by how quickly the Chelsea defenders are agitating them. They have tried to play passes over the defense but the tall back line of Ivanović, Luiz and Azpilicueta is having none of it.
35'
Even with all the pressure that Chelsea is applying forward, Liverpool have done well not to give up a second goal. The Blues have spent a lot of time in the Liverpool area and have definitely put their stamp on the first third of the game.
32'
In the last five minutes of the game, Chelsea has had 76% ball possession. This time the numbers seem to be a bit more deserving as Chelsea has certainly found their groove.
30'
Another chance for Chelsea! After the foul from Jordan Henderson on Eden Hazard, David Luiz is set up very central to the goal and launches a attempt that Reina absolutely has to get behind. He does well to give on the loose ball before it has a chance to sneak over the line.
29'
Jordan Henderson (Liverpool FC) is shown a yellow card
26'
Goooal for Chelsea FC, 0:1 by Oscar
Oscar with the goal! After Eden Hazard is rewarded the first corner for the Blues, the ball is whipped in high and with pace towards the right goal post. The young brazilian does well to get away from the Liverpool defence that stood rather flat footed and nods his header into the net. Reina does well to get a hand to it but the powerful shot rips straight off his gloves and settles itself into the back of the net.
24'
The players are battling with a wet pitch and it's already caused a few stumbles. Suárez looked prepared to take a shot before he stumbled and coughed the ball away.
23'
A round of applause can be heard for the home side. It is really an amazing vibe and the Liverpool side should want to play a motivated game for their fans as they try to get back into the hunt for an Europa League berth.
20'
Excellent shot from Chelsea's Ramires. Fortunately for Liverpool's keeper Pepe Reina it comes straight at him and he does well to parry it away from danger.
18'
The first corner for Liverpool taken by Steven Gerrard and deflected away. The wayward ball finds Stewart Downing's left foot and he does well with the shot but it flies over the crossbar rather anti-climactically.
15'
In the first quarter of an hour the two teams have tried to control the midfield and there haven't been many chances from either side other than the Glen Johnson strike. Chelsea has 57% possession to this point but don't let that number fool you; Liverpool are playing well.
13'
The Anfield stadium fans as active as the Liverpool defense! Chelsea cannot find very much room on the Liverpool side and have not been able to get Torres involved much. The home team hsa done very well with the difficult task of containing their dangerous opponent.
11'
But now the Blues are awake! Ramires shows his skill by pushing the ball through his defenders legs and the action reaches Fernando Torres who does well but cannot get the low cross into the middle thanks to a well timed slide tackle.
9'
Liverpool has show a very impressive offensive performance in the beginning phases of the game. They are pushing forward often and thanks to some very decisive passing have benefitted them well. It doesn't help Chelsea's cause that they still appear to be sleeping.
7'
Liverpool once more with a chance! Jordan Henderson finds the ball on his foot after a free kick is headed away from the Chelsea box. He can't do well with it as the shot lifts over Čech's goal and out of bounds.
5'
First chance and it's for Liverpool! Glen Johnson is delivered a ball into the right side of the box from Luis Suárez and slices a right footed shot quickly as Chelsea's keeper Petr Čech comes out to disrupt the action. The keeper does well and the ball floats harmlessly out of bounds.
3'
Danish national player Daniel Agger seems to be shaken up after a challenge with Fernando Torres. He seems okay but the landing looked rather painful but running fun.
2'
A battle of red and blue is taking place in the midfield. Both teams are grappling for the ball and trying to place their first makrs on the game.
1'
And we're off at Anfield stadium!
1'
Beginning
The 34th meeting between these two teams in the last eight years. No two other english sides met so many times in that time frame. The last meeting between these teams saw each come away with one point in the 1:1 tie at the Stamford Bridge. What does this game have in store? As the fans of Liverpool serenade their players with song the line ups are set. Kick off is just a few minutes away!
On the tactical side, the burning question is if Liverpool's attack will be able to find any holes in the gritty Chelsea defense. The Reds have certainly had a lift thanks to the additions of former Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge and former Inter midfielder Philippe Coutinho. The Sturridge, the young center forward has been excellent with four goals in his nine Premier League apperances with Liverpool and Coutinho has tallied two himself during the same stretch. If they play well, perhaps Liverpool can find space and get the ball to their moster in the middle Luiz Suarez, if not there may not be many openings for the Liverpool side.
Benítez isn't the only one making his return to Anfield. Chelsea's Fernando Torres, a former Liverpool player and Demba Ba, will want to prove something to their Chelsea fans and if the pair end up playing together it could spell trouble for the Liverpool back line.
This match has, as of now, a much larger importance for the Chelsea side as the other action of the day that sees Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City has just ended with a 3:1 Hotspur victory. That places them comfortably tied for 4th place in the table. If Chelsea don't pick up points here it could be disasterous for this year's campaign.
It will be a bittersweet day for Chelsea manager Rafa Benítez's first game back in Anfield stadium since leaving Liverpool. It will be interesting to see the crowd's reception to their former trainer. It's fascinating different Benítez's situations have been with the two sides with Chelsea fans more critical of the spanish coach than his former lovenest of Liverpool.

Good afternoon! Today we have the tantilizing Premier League competition that sets Liverpool FC against Chelsea FC! The two english clubs have some work to do still in the table.
